Ted Cheeseman v Asinia Byfield
Ted Cheeseman v Asinia Byfield
Ordered by the BBBoC to fight for the title vacated by Williams.
Not seen Byfield. Anyone know anything about him?

Re: Ted Cheeseman v Asinia Byfield
Why did Williams vacate?
He's not doing anything else right now is he?
The British title is going to be totally irrelevant in a few years.
Shame on the BBBofC and the promoters.

Re: Ted Cheeseman v Asinia Byfield
Maybe he feels he's above that level because he's lost two close fights against a former world champ? I was right on the Williams bandwagon at first but I'm not sure now after the second Smith fight. I'd like to see what he does now though....
I like this fight though for the vacant title. Cheeseman looks a wrecking ball and Byfield looks very good in the last two (only two) fights I've seen him in. Could pose Cheeseman issues with his style. I like this fight a lot...
Re: Ted Cheeseman v Asinia Byfield
Your comment on the belt being irrelevant is fair though mate.
It's because of the amount of titles and awful ranking positions! Guys like Crolla can have a few world level fights and Burns is a three weight world champ now! Guys see this and want a piece! I wish it was different but I can see the lure!

Would he even be a favourite against Cheeseman?

Maybe not Horse no. I'd love to see that fight! I'm just trying to understand why this has happened.Horse wrote: ↑15 Jun 2018, 17:59He's not above this level though.Stuarty wrote: ↑15 Jun 2018, 17:55Maybe he feels he's above that level because he's lost two close fights against a former world champ? Re: Ted Cheeseman v Asinia Byfield
It is aye. Even 10/15 years back, British title fights were some of the best fights you'd be likely to see! I used to get as excited for British title fights back them the same way I do for mediocre world strap fights now! It's a bit hollow, to say the least!Horse wrote: ↑15 Jun 2018, 18:07It's a shame.Stuarty wrote: ↑15 Jun 2018, 17:58Your comment on the belt being irrelevant is fair though mate.

British title fights get me moist, the fact they’ve ordered this and Robbie Davies Jnr vs Glen Foot, gives me hope in the board.Stuarty wrote: ↑15 Jun 2018, 18:16It is aye. Wanna see what Askin does next, and also who will fight for the vacant Heavyweight belt! I’d suggest Gorman vs Joyce.

Yeah it's a good match up! We seem to be focussing too much on the negatives!TheGingerBomber wrote: ↑15 Jun 2018, 21:38British title fights get me moist, the fact they’ve ordered this and Robbie Davies Jnr vs Glen Foot, gives me hope in the board.

Re: Ted Cheeseman v Asinia Byfield
Ted Cheeseman vs Asinia Byfield
Ted Cheeseman vs Jimmy Kilrain Kelly
Ted Cheeseman vs Liam Williams
Ted Cheeseman vs Sam Eggington
That would be an old school style Lonsdale Belt winning run. Hopefully something like that can happen.

Re: Ted Cheeseman v Asinia Byfield
i agree horse, i said something similar about Bradley Skeete that british welter is on par with world level . maybe i got a bit above my station , still think British boxing ranks are really strong
Re: Ted Cheeseman v Asinia Byfield
Rather see him fight Metcalfe than Kelly.

Does anyone think weight could be an issue in terms of Williams vacating.

Re: Ted Cheeseman v Asinia Byfield
Plenty of good fights to be made domestically at 154.
Cheeseman, Byfield, Metcalf, Fitzgerald, Williams, Fowler, Eggington.
There's always that danger of when someone has fought above British level, for example with Williams against Smith or Eggington being European champ at 147, that they feel the British title is below them so they don't bother with what could be good domestic fights. It's understandable, in a time when losses are apparently so important, a loss at 'world level' is less damaging than one at domestic level.
The European title is held by a French kid called Beaussire (26-1-1, 10 KOs). Maybe one of them could beat him, bring the belt over here and add an incentive for these fights to happen.
It's too easy getting to world level without taking these fights, these are the fights that should have to happen before a fighter steps up.

Some cracking fights out there for Ted. Was hoping there might be a chance of this getting on the undercard of the Whyte fight - would have been enough to get me to go I think. But seems not. Byfield is the one whose fans bashed up West Ham fans at the Copperbox isn't he? In which case I've got a bit of a soft spot for him too
