Matthew Saad Muhammad VS. Michael Spinks

Prime match up of course with the durable Matthew Saad Muhammad that could take tons punishment and come right back to knock you out. Against the always awkward but always dangerous Michael Spinks.

I know Spinks record looks better and (to me anyway) is an overall better fighter. This is a match up of different styles though and Maybe Saad's vicious body punches slow Spinks down for the later rounds.

It would be the expected result . . no upset here, Spinks by a brutal knockout around the 8th or maybe earlier.

Michael would either stop Saad late, or win a hard fought unanimous decison over him.Saad would take a few rounds,but once Spinks asserted himself in the middle rounds, he take the fight in his hands.

That's pretty much the way I see it too. MSM would come up big in several rds, but he'd never gain the upper hand. Spinks would either finish him late or win a clear hard fought decision.

I'm somewhat biased & blinkered when it comes to Saad as he is my favourite fighter of all time, but I've never been of the opinion that he could beat Spinks.

IMO, Spinks is in the top 3 LHWs of all-time & the Jinx would beat Saad unanimously on points.

Spinks by wide decision, he was too smart to get into a firefight with Saad and that's the only chance Matt would have here. Don't see a stoppage and definitely don't see a KO Dempsey.

Saad was incredibly gutsy, but Spinks simply was more classy. Jinx would have controlled the fight from the beginning and would have knocked Saad out somewhere from the 6th til 10th.

Spinks really benefited from coming in at the end of the brutal 70s Lt. Heavy scene to reign over the far weaker 80s crop. Not saying he wouldn't have been the best of that era, either. I just find it unlikely he'd have been able to exert that same kind of dominance had he turned pro just 5 years earlier. Saad faced and beat the better opposition at Lt. Heavy, facing guys like Lopez and Johnson at their best. Spinks got their remains.

On the one hand, that's the point. On the other hand, he defeated Qawi, who should have probably been called just the best boxer of those times after Spinks himself.

But he would never stop trying for 15 rounds and Spinks would know he had been in a dogfight.

Spinks scores a knockdown along the way and wins about 10-5 in rounds.
