The guy did the best he could with the tools he had and the vast majority of boxers would be very pleased to have had a similar career.

100%. The problem is that he spoke absolute shite and had opportunity after opportunity handed to him at a level he never approached legitimately earning. Doesn’t mean that he was useless but realistically it means he’ll catch a few pelters as a result. Hardly unfair

I have no hate for him, just incredible admiration that such a limited fighter would get so many title shots/stay in the mix while fighting mainly C or D List opposition.

think he was known to be but of a c@nt on social media + repeated seemingly unearned title shots, that type of mix will defo get some hate

was gonna agree that he made the most of things, but tbh that doesnt really feel very accurate, didnt feel like he worked to those opportunities and performed his way up nearly as much as they were gotten for him. wasnt so much him making things


best wins were dodson, quigley, and david banks. i mean, thats so short of world level that i can see the frusrtration ppl had with him fighting 3x for titles plus ward. ppl complain about fielding getting a shot and he beat rebrasse (former ebu champ) and ryder (euro level id say )

Where have you been for the past few years fella? I'm struggling to think of a British fighter who's had a worse relationship with fans. The feedback on this thread surely tells you all you need to know.
In 15 years on this forum, I honestly don't think I've ever really run down a British fighter bar him, and that's simply been a direct reaction to his arrogance, patronizing attitude, contempt for views that don't align with his own and, of course, his hypocrisy. All of which have been on display on numerous occasions in the public domain.

Buster Keeton was a good win, despite Buster taking it on the day of the fight.
Bruce Scott was a good fighter too despite killing himself to make light heavy, he moved up to cruiser whe he had domestic success after this loss.
Other than that he very much feasted on the usual suspects until winning the Commonwealth off Noel Magee. Magee never won a British title and won the commonwealth against Delaney who was dead at the weight
Saying that stoppage wins against Johnny Melfah, Simon Harris and Trevor Ambrose are good results, the Welshman did have a decent dig.
The early 6 round draw against Maurice Core is a good result too

The Ashley bout gets overlooked, it was a decent fight and I think, only one round between them in the scoring.

The question was wins though! He was winning out of sight against Barber before getting caught for the then lightly regarded WBO strap.
He was never in the fight against Michaelawski, but the Asley fight was a classic, could have gone either way, Piper almost stopped him too. For me that was Pipers best performance

After the commonwealth Games, he signed a very lucrative deal with FW where he was paid guaranteed wages each week.

He then trained full-time, knew his fight dates etc. against opponents who were very carefully selected.

I think that even his mum would find it difficult to justify any of the opportunities he was given - yet he talked with the entitlement of a hall of famer.

Not to mention his on-line persona, it was hardly fan-friendly, and he is still the same today.
