Cordina v Dodd - Commonwealth Title
Cordina v Dodd - Commonwealth Title
A few days ago I was wondering why Cordina wasn't getting the same push as Buatsi/Kelly etc (in terms of visibility/tv etc).
Anyway, Matchroom have announced the above will take place in Cardiff on August 4th. Looks like Coyle has vacated already.
I think I've said this before, but the Commonwealth title might as well be renamed "British B Title".

The British title is now more like the English A title.magnus wrote: ↑20 Jun 2018, 14:33 A few days ago I was wondering why Cordina wasn't getting the same push as Buatsi/Kelly etc (in terms of visibility/tv etc).

The Commonwealth title can be the English B title.
The English title can be the English C title.
Re: Cordina v Dodd - Commonwealth Title
It says a lot about the strength if British boxing.
A British title fought between the top two in the country probably has a higher skill level at a particular weight, than say the best LW British boxer Vs the best LW from the other commonwealth countries.
Also, the view/opinion that the commonwealth belt is a British B belt is a British view/opinion, and not realistically that of commonwealth country fans.

Re: Cordina v Dodd - Commonwealth Title
My view is based on what seems like a endless parade of Brit vs Brit title matches, plus the relative lack of involvement from fighters from other Commonwealth nations.
During my time as a boxing fan, South Africa has produced an impressive amount of world champions/contenders (particularly in the lower weights), barely any of whom have fought for the Commonwealth belt at any stage.
Not many Canadian fighters seem to challenge for it these days either.
A few Australian fighters have, and there seems to have been a slightly increased appeitite for it in the last couple of years from Oz, but generally it seems a Brit-centric belt.

Because non of the other countries have the talent and or the money to stage worthy fights without brits.magnus wrote: ↑20 Jun 2018, 16:58 My view is based on what seems like a endless parade of Brit vs Brit title matches, plus the relative lack of involvement from fighters from other Commonwealth nations.

Re: Cordina v Dodd - Commonwealth Title
go through and compare british title fights over last few years to commonwealth, the brit title clearly is fought for by a higher standard overall and very few decent foreigners contest the commonwealth or make any run with it. its non brits like dillan carman and random africans whove had high commonwealth rankings and been in line to fight for it, kris george was actually very good compared to the average foriegner going for it but hed hardlybe so good at brit levelKiwiRider wrote: ↑20 Jun 2018, 16:18 It says a lot about the strength if British boxing.

Re: Cordina v Dodd - Commonwealth Title
Good match up for Cordina. He should take it by stoppage. 5/6 rounds. Would like to see him kick on after this. He's got the talent to go a long way in the sport.
Re: Cordina v Dodd - Commonwealth Title
I doubt whether a single user of this site knows who all the current commonwealth champions are. I suspect that most of us would never have even heard of a couple. The fact that the last 6 fights for the bantamweight title have all been for the vacant title, tells you all you need to know about their current value. Mind you, the same could be said about most titles these days.
Re: Cordina v Dodd - Commonwealth Title
I am sure the Commonwealth Council (or whatever they are called) were about to go skint a few years ago, until a friendly altruistic promoter called Frank stepped in and bailed them out financially - he might have got on the Board etc.
Anyway, it was about this time that this promoter started to promote a load of Commonwealth title fights between his fringe domestic boxers and either another UK boxer or some teak-tough fella from a village nowhere near where Azuma Nelson lives.
He has basically ballsed up the title, by manipulating the Council to improve his boxers rankings - Commonwealth title and/or WBO EU title and before you know it, a World ranking.

Good fight this. Huge step-up for Cordina.
FairPlay to Eddie he’s moving the Olympians fast.
He’s throwing them in at the deep end, but they are all swimming.
Cordina is a class act. I favour him to stop Masher.

Dodd is on twitter kissing Eddie's arrse thanking him for the opportunity etc.
I agree with one of the guys who posted that Eddie isn't doing him any favours - he is the opponent being set up to fail.
