Burns v Gamboa

Post by Stuarty »

Rumour has it Burns is meant to be fighting Gamboa next up in the US. Burns apparently wants the Crolla rematch but that's looking unlikely.

I'm not doing a 'Wes' here but how to people see this fight going if it is a goer? I'm not sure at all tbh. Both well last their best. If Burns had any power if fancy him to get to Gamboa eventually but that's unlikely. Interesting fight IMO. Hope it takes off,

Wow interesting matchup, depending on their current forms I wouldn't put it past Burns to weather an early storm and take over in the later rounds, potentially good fight this.

It would be a very sad day if Ricky Burns beat Yuri Gamboa

That makes no sense, Burns is known for fitness and grit whilst Gamboa has shown a lack of both, even in their primes Burns has a shot, its not about who looks better in this game mate its about who wants it more.

Gamboa wins this on points for me. He’s the least shot out of the two.

Isn't Taylor entering that tournament if he beats Postol?

Hopefully he won't be available for a while.

I'd rather Burns had one last run at lightweight anyway.

Sounds kind of depressing. Although who knows, both might be motivated. Stranger matchups have provided good fights.

Depressing? A fight were the winner is not obvious is generally a good thing.

They've both achieved a lot in boxing and it seems like a fair match with no one being brought in as a patsy.

It seems like a good fight to me.

That's how I see it going as well mate. Burns is as hard as they come and I think that will break Gamboas heart the further the fight goes

Yeah that's the rumour. That would be a cracking tourney if they manage to get all the top boys in it.

Burns says he's not moving to 140. Says he can make 135 easy enough if he diets properly which he always does anyway.

Burns says that's a no go as he feels he has unfinished business at lightweight. Can't see it happening unfortunately. If it did it would be another Arthur v Limond lol. Taylor in Rd 8/9.

They're both faded so it seems a reasonably matchup.

If faded guys insist on continuing on with their careers I'd rather see them matched against other faded guys instead of thrown to the wolves in matches they can't win.

Pick 'em matchup.

Burns fighting at a natural weight.

Gamboa the better, more skilled fighter but has failed to impress at lightweight.

It probably comes down to who is more "on" that night.

Don't underestimate Burns.

His win against Relikh wasn't impressive at the time, but he's now one of the top 140 lbs fighters.

Burns has been hot and cold throughout much of his career. I don't think that it's clear that he's finished yet.

Yeah that was an excellent win although he very nearly came unstuck. I just think in recent years he's looked like being stopped a few times. Relikh and Indongo as well. I just think Taylor beats him in every department so I'm not too keen on that fight tbh.

I'd much rather he had another run at lightweight to see what he has left. I'd love to see him get some more success before he hangs them up. Genuinely nice guy.

It’d be sad to see two empty shells in there considering how good they once were.

But maybe they’d be competitive, motivated. Maybe we’ll see one strong performance. Or even a genuinely good fight.

I don't think that either of them are empty shells. They both still seem to have that competitive spark.

Neither might be as good as they once were, but both seem to still be trying.

I think this is a good fight. Neither is likely to be coming just for the money.

I wouldn't say "everyone" up here wants it. I certainly don't and I know quite a few people who feel the same.

I don't want to see it either. Taylor is too big, too fast and too fresh for Ricky at this stage.
