Billy Seasman

Post by johnkennedy55 »

There is an error and an ommission in the boxing record of British welerweight Billy Seasman, who was active between 1962 and 1972. His BoxRec record reads as 20-13-1, but should read 21-12-1.

The error occurs for his fight of 29 November 1965 against Johnny Patrick, which is listed as a TKO loss in the third round. Billy Seasman actually won this fight with a third round TKO. I have a copy of the Boxing News of 3 December 1965, which records Billy's victory at the foot of the first column of page 11 in the article Double for Laud Family - NSC - November 29). I am unable to find a facility to include a copy of this page in this message, but I will attempt to email it to you.

The ommission occurs in the BoxRec record for Billy Seasman's victory over Amos Talbot on 31 March 1969. This fight was for the BBBofC's Central Area Welterweight title, but this fact is not stated. I have a copy of the Boxing News for 4 April 1969, which covers this fight in the third and fourth columns of page 4 in the article Second Billy Tansey Dies in Hall But Shaw Wins Well. Again, I am unable to find a means to include a copy in this message, but I will attempt to email it to you.

For your information, Billy was stripped of this title following a period of inactivity due to a recurring broken hand, an injury which would ultimately force his retirement form the ring in 1972.

Now seventy-two, Billy is still fit and well and would sincerely like to see his record corrected.

Please do not regard this message as a negative criticism of BoxRec. The work you do and have already done to put together such an incredible history of boxing records is breathtaking and I applaud you for it.

Many thanks

Impressed by how quickly you put this right. Billy's delighted.
