Any upsets you can think of where a guy is considered past it but beats a young champion/contender?

Foreman v Moorer is an obvious one,

Enjoyed Jhonny Gonzalez knocking out Mares as well :TU:

Discuss....

Hopkins was really good to watch in the fight for a change! In and out very sharp, loads of combinations, excellent movement! Completely took Pavlik to school! Good shout :TU:

I don’t remember exactly whether it was a big upset or not, but I think Julius Francis v Danny Williams meets the criteria of a young contender getting beaten by a ‘past it’ champ?

Great example. Duran had looked subpar leading up to this bout. I honestly thought Davey was going to beat him handily

One of my favorite fights. Moore got systematically broken down by Duran's sublime boxing skills that night, brilliant performance by Duran.

It’s the manner of the victory that made that an upset.
Lacy was certainly the favourite but it was 60/40 or closer, though there were worries about JCs hands too

They brought Lacy over thinking he was the next big thing and was quite heavily favored going in.

Not exactly past (no where near, in fact) but Hopkins beating Trinidad in 2001 was a massive upset. Most boxing writers had Trinidad down as a dead cert to win. I think that in Ring magazine out of about 40 boxing writers/heads only one went for Hopkins. It was a massive surprise when Trinidad was schooled, beaten up over 11 rounds and then stopped in the final round.
