Srisaket Sor Rungvisai vs. Young Gil Bae - July 21, 2018 in Thailand
World Boxing Council (WBC) super flyweight world champion Srisaket Sor Rungvisai will return to the ring on July 21, when he faces South Korean contender Young Gil Bae.
The contest will be a non-title fight, and fought over the ten round distance. The homecoming event will be held at the Workpoint Studio in Bang Phun, Thailand.
Since last week, the possibility of this event with Sor Rungvisai fighting at home was announced, after having canceled a direct rematch with the Mexico's Juan Francisco "Gallo" Estrada.
This cancellation of the Estrada rematch came about after Sor Rungvisai broke up with his longtime girlfriend. But along with this sentimental break, Sor Rungvisai (45-4-1, 40 knockouts) also ended his working relationship with his manager of several years.
But he will stay busy on July 21 against Bae, who has a record of 28-6-2 and 22 knockouts.
The fight against Bae is going to take place at the bantamweight limit of 118-pounds.
The fight will be shown on Workpoint TV, continuing the relationship between the channel and the Nakornluang stable, and as a result it will be available to view all over the world, through the YouTube channel of Workpoint.
Bae has also been out of the ring for a while, having not fought since April 2017, when he fought for a draw with a Thai rookie in Bangkok. He has fought frequently in Thailand, and is best known for his 2015 knockout loss to WBC minimumweight champion Wanheng Menayothin, who advanced to 40-0 by stopping Bae.

Oh boy...it doesn't look like this guy is dealing well with the newfound success. I don't think that I've ever heard of a fight being cancelled due to a break up with a girlfriend. Now splitting up his team as well inside the ring. I hope that this doesn't turn into an Oliver McCall situation. I love watching this guy fight so i'm rooting for him

Is he avoiding Estrada? Or does he deserve a fight in his home country?

He was supposedly too devastated and lovesick to focus on boxing and return to the ring against Estrada in August.
But suddenly Sor Rungvasai is able to schedule a fight against an aging journeyman for July.
That makes no sense.
I don't see the Thai fighter as the kind of guy who would try to avoid a rematch with Estrada.
He seems to be a pure fighter at heart.
But what's going on seems a little suspicious.
Bae is just a stay busy fight. Take on Estrada. Take on Nietes.
But don't give us any more lovesick stories.

of course it makes sense, vs an opponent like this the struggles with focus (whatever u think of them) arnt nearly as much of a problem. theres way less room for problems vs a guy like estrada and he cant afford to be off
pretty simple really

So Sor Rungvasai is too mentally distressed to focus on boxing if he has to take on a quality fighter.
But he can focus if the opponent appears to be non-threatening?
I still don't buy it.
The way it was explained a few months ago, the Thai wasn't even in any condition mentally to go near the gym.
Obviously he's already been in training and working out if he announces a fight less than a month from now.
He could have been ready for Estrada.
It's a real cock 'n bull story.

Personally would want to see Srisaket avenge his early losses in his career to Yaegashi and Cuadras.

Isn't Cuadras under indefinite suspension for testing positive for recreational drugs?
I heard the guy is (was?) in rehab so his boxing career is pretty much on hold.

dont know whats hard to understand, hes had some issues so returns vs a guy he can afford to have those against, its just like a fighter returning vs softer opposition after a lay off, injury, etcSenorPipino wrote: ↑24 Jun 2018, 13:35 So Sor Rungvasai is too mentally distressed to focus on boxing if he has to take on a quality fighter.

hes already shown hell fight top opposition and he already beat estrada and roman 2x as underdog
you think hes suddenly scared of estrada now or something? what do you think the real deal is? just say it outright then, ...

And Yaegashi is beyond being a shadow of his best
