World Boxing Super Series - Super Lightweight

Post by TheGingerBomber »

This got announced properly today, and I saw a tweet from about a week ago saying the all but confirmed are;

Regis Prograis
Eduard Troyanovsky
Ryan Martin
Ivan Barynchyk
Anthony Yigit
Kiryl Relikh

Apologies for spelling errors.

Apparently the other two to be confirmed will be Josh Taylor and Maurice Hooker.

Personally, after Postol’s performance against Taylor, I’d prefer to see him in there over Troyanovsky, as long as they avoid each other in the first round.

Anyone you’s would like to see?

Yeah Postol should be in there. If Ramirez isn't involved then Taylor will be forfeiting his ranking with the WBC won't he? Assuming Taylor has joined up.

If that’s the case Postol should get the nod. Shame cos I’d like to see Taylor in there but someone hinted McGuigan loses his cash cow to a different network.

Baz and all his kids, wife, in laws, neighbours, etc will all still get their %. Josh might even get a wage. Look how it’s turned out for Callum Smith. Then again, look how it’s turned out for Burnett. Double champ, selling out in Belfast now probably on his way to fight Inoue or Tete.... I know Eddie really thought about putting him in or not but I think it’s one of the stupidest calls he’s ever made.

So Kryill Relikh WBA Champ

Yigit v Baranchyk for Vacant IBF belt

Josh Taylor

That's half of the fighters confirmed.

Hooker had apparently agreed to go in if he beat Flanagan. Regis Prograis has been mentioned as likely.

I think it was mentioned ages ago that Troyanovsky is involved because he is mandatory for Relikh.

I still think Lipinets can do something at 140.

Pure fantasy and will never happen but I would love to see Broner involved. 140 should be his weight class.

Really excited that Josh Taylor is in this. He will become Lineal Champion if he wins the tournament.

I know, it would be an enhanced version of the Davies fight, and Broner has no quit in him either.

Regardless the tournaments a chance for Taylor to become lineal champion. Something Scotland hasn't had since Ken Buchanan.

Aye true mate. Loving the way Taylor is going about his business but I'm also worried that he's moving too fast to an extent. I think he'll be ok and he'll be a better fighter after the Postol fight but worry always creeps in.

Really great news that Taylor has signed up. These WBSS tournaments have been mostly excellent so far, looks like the new ones might be even better.

I think he is being moved perfectly, he is a world class fighter and needs to be fighting at world level.

The only fighter I think may be a threat to him is Progais. He looked quality against Indongo but still very unproven.

I'm not sure if he gets hit too much or for a very aggressive fighter that's just his style. Haven't seen too much of him but he hasn't got, say the Gallagher gym thing where he never moves his head, seems to roll through the shoulders, attacks from angles. I mean he doesn't look like a Gatti or who's that Japanese fella at 130 eats punches for fun, Miura, he doesn't look like he literally has no defence. Anyways given his style and the fact that kind of aggression can often put people out of their rhythm and not throwing their best punches all the time, his defence didn't look disastrous to me. We've seen plenty of dudes carve out careers word level with worse IMO

That's a quality fight that I hope happens in the final. Gives the two of them a couple more fights to develop as well. Prograis hits hard but so does Taylor and Taylor has more dog in him from what I've seen so far. I'd like to see Taylor away from home without the crowd behind him and having to think and box. I think if he fought Postol again he'd do a better job because he's a far better boxer than what we've seen so far. He's really exciting to watch so I'm not complaining :TU:

Great that Taylor is in the tournament. Downside is that all his fights will undoubtedly be PPV
