Demetrius Andrade vs. Yamaguchi Falcao - OFF
HBO’s boxing broadcast July 21 from Las Vegas will be a tripleheader after all.
BS.com has learned that a middleweight match that’ll pit undefeated Demetrius Andrade against Yamaguchi Falcao will be added to the two fights HBO announced Friday. An agreement is in place for the Andrade-Falcao fight and an announcement is imminent.
Andrade-Falcao has been in the works for several weeks. When it wasn’t revealed as part of the telecast Friday, however, it prompted speculation that the fight wouldn’t take place.
The 30-year-old Andrade (25-0, 16 KOs), a 2008 Olympian from Providence, Rhode Island, soundly defeated Alantez Fox (23-1-1, 11 KOs) in his last fight, a 12-rounder October 21. HBO televised the Andrade-Fox fight from Turning Stone Resort Casino.
The 30-year-old Falcao (15-0, 7 KOs, 1 NC), a 2012 Olympian from Sao Paulo, Brazil, most recently beat Colombia’s Richard Gutierrez (30-18-2, 19 KOs, 1 NC) by unanimous decision in an eight-rounder March 31 in Quincy, Massachusetts. Andrade, a highly skilled southpaw and two-time super welterweight champion, will be by far the toughest opponent of Falcao’s four-year pro career.
The main event of HBO’s three-bout broadcast July 21 will be a 12-rounder between newly crowned WBO super welterweight champ Jaime Munguia (29-0, 25 KOs) and mandatory challenger Liam Smith (26-1-1, 14 KOs).
This HBO tripleheader also will include a 12-round, 130-pound title bout that’ll match Puerto Rico’s Alberto Machado (19-0, 16 KOs) against Ghana’s Rafael Mensah (31-0, 23 KOs). Mensah, 27, is the No. 1 contender for the 27-year-old Machado’s WBA super featherweight title.

What is the fuckin point in Andrade! Such a waste! Is he even interested?
Re: Demetrius Andrade vs.Yamaguchi Falcao - July 21, 2018
falcaos okay but i feel andrade should fight a legit consensus top 10, good contender type, hes good but really lacks a notable win
falcao is sort of like fox, nice win to loss ratio but not really done much to move much out of prospect stage. if asked what guys like falcao and fox have done as a pro, what can you really say?
andrades best wins are decisions over vanes (andrade got dropped) and jack culcay

Re: Demetrius Andrade vs.Yamaguchi Falcao - July 21, 2018
I know very little about Yamaguchi Falcao.
I only know five things, which relates to the fact that: his resume is unimpressive; he’s a very small middleweight; he doesn’t appear to be very athletic; he’s feather-fisted; and in terms of boxing technique, he appears to be fundamentally sound, but not particularly impressive.
This is a step in the wrong direction for Andrade.

i agree, hes decent but really nothing notable at all, if andrade beats him its 'so what?'
a lot of ppl make excuses that he gets massively ducked, but frankly he seems to play a big role in not getting big fights. withdrew from mandatory fight vs charlo at jmw, think he withdrew from some fight that wouldve gotten him a shot at lara, says he needs more time to prepare for top mws, etc.
dude was focused on jack culcay though

Has Yamaguchi got a brother?
Re: Demetrius Andrade vs.Yamaguchi Falcao - July 21, 2018
Esquiva Falcao and Yamaguchi fFalcao are very decent fighters.

Re: Demetrius Andrade vs.Yamaguchi Falcao - July 21, 2018
Massive step up for Falcao. Just kinda treading water for Andrade.

Uninteresting mismatch crap. HBO should not be accepting matchups like this.

HBO signed Andrade on a 3-fight deal. They probably want to just get rid nowjujigatame wrote: ↑27 Jun 2018, 11:08 Uninteresting mismatch crap. HBO should not be accepting matchups like this.

According to ESPN's Dan Rafael, they’ve already done it.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑27 Jun 2018, 11:16HBO signed Andrade on a 3-fight deal. They probably want to just get rid nowjujigatame wrote: ↑27 Jun 2018, 11:08 Uninteresting mismatch crap. HBO should not be accepting matchups like this.
HBO is down on Andrade (25-0, 16 KOs), and probably wouldn't get behind such a match. After Andrade easily outpointed Alantez Fox in a snoozer in October in the first fight of a three-fight deal with HBO, the network declined to exercise the option it had on him for the second fight and he became a television free agent.
This means that HBO's decision to televise Andrade's next bout against Falcao is simply due to their inability or reluctance to fund a better fight, rather than them having any contractual obligation to Demetrius.
Re: Demetrius Andrade vs.Yamaguchi Falcao - July 21, 2018
He really is a wasted talent. Or he really does not feel confident at 160 to fight top guys.
Hmm he still has time to step up if he wins.

I don't understand why he never pursued the big fights at 154. Who promotes Andrade anyway? Is he another case of a PBC one fight a year career ruination story?
I don't really get what the deal is with some of these guys. If you're gonna fight mediocre matchups that don't advance your career you might as well fight 3 or 4 of 'em a year.

Andrade has never had any affiliations with Al Haymon or the PBC.gilgamesh wrote: ↑27 Jun 2018, 13:40I don't understand why he never pursued the big fights at 154. Who promotes Andrade anyway? Is he another case of a PBC one fight a year career ruination story?

Interestingly, Andrade has previously stated his desire to the media about working with Haymon, but the PBC boss has never shown an interest.

What a horrible fight. I've not been impressed with the Falcaos.
Re: Demetrius Andrade vs.Yamaguchi Falcao - July 21, 2018
Yeah, he is like an Andre Ward, always having problems with the promoter. I am not sure of the name, but I am pretty sure it is one that no one has really ever heard of.Enlightened-One wrote: ↑27 Jun 2018, 13:45Andrade has never had any affiliations with Al Haymon or the PBC.gilgamesh wrote: ↑27 Jun 2018, 13:40I don't understand why he never pursued the big fights at 154. Exactly, at this point if you are not getting big/better fights. Might as well just fight journeymen every 3 or 4 months.
Would really like to see him against a Charlo brother or Hurd.

LOL and people were saying Golovkin should've fought him. This is the kind of crap that makes no one want to fight this clown.

Don’t get why the fight is off. I thought HBO were funding it anyway. He hasn’t fought since October 2017.. he’s still late 20’s, wasting his prime.
Re: Demetrius Andrade vs. Yamaguchi Falcao - OFF
It's not surprising. This isn't the first time this has happened. Also happened when he was scheduled to fight the Charlo.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑28 Jun 2018, 19:18Don’t get why the fight is off.
