Timothy Bradley Inks Multi-Year Contract Extension With ESPN

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

Timothy “Desert Storm” Bradley Jr., the former two-division world titleholder and one of the best pound per pound boxers, has agreed to a new multiyear contract extension with ESPN, it was announced today.

Under the agreement, Bradley will continue to serve as boxing analyst for Top Rank on ESPN, alongside Joe Tessitore and Mark Kriegel.

“Tim’s expertise as a former champion, combined with his passion for the sport, makes him an incredible analyst for Top Rank on ESPN,” said Mark Gross, ESPN senior vice president, production and remote events. “He brings a wealth of knowledge and passion to his analysis and we look forward to his continued contributions to our telecasts.”

“Bob Arum, Todd DuBoef and Top Rank were instrumental in helping make my career a legacy and have now joined forces with ESPN to create the best boxing platform available,” said Bradley. “It is an honor and a blessing to be part of this platform and to sit alongside Tessitore and Kriegel and be part of the rebirth of boxing on national television. Thank you to Top Rank and ESPN for giving me a chance to be here. I promise to deliver the fans the best insight possible for many years to come.”

Bradley held five world championships in two weight classes. He retired in 2017, finishing his career with a record of 33-2-1, with 13 of his victories by way of knockouts. He won his first world title fight, light welterweight, in 2008 when he upset champion Junior Witter in England.

Glad to hear it. He does a fine job as a commentator, and I'm glad to see a guy like him have a steady source of income after calling it a career in the Boxing ring.

Hopefully he doesn’t take advice of his former trainer.

He's improved somewhat during recent broadcasts.

When he began, Bradley seemed to only be there because ESPN decided they wanted 3 guys at ringside.

He added little. Getting an opinion out of Bradley was fruitless unless asked point blank to give one.

Someone at ESPN must have whispered to him to step it up because Bradley has been more candid, more forceful lately.

Still has a ways to go, and he'll probably never be an elite voice, but hopefully he continues to improve.

Unlike a lot of viewers, I've never been a big fan of boxers behind the microphone.

People tend to enjoy their expertise, but I'm more interested in their communication skills,

Just because you've been in the ring doesn't mean that you can articulately convey those experiences and offer meaningful insight.

Many seemed to enjoy Sean O'Grady from the old Tuesday Night Fights. The Green Machine was a likable presence but I thought he added little and never seemed to improve in all the years he sat ringside.

O'Grady simply relied on pet phrases he used over and over. It was chiefly calling fights by-the-number. His post fight interview skills were terrible.

Give me an experienced broadcaster over a boxer or former boxer any day.

(But don't give me Mark Kriegel either)

Yeah I'd agree with this. A lot of boxers show a bias toward guys that fight like them too.

Jerry Quarry was a fine broadcaster during his CBS days.

But he was overly critical and often dismissive of heavyweights. He gave you the impression that he didn't think any of them could match up to him.

But Quarry did a good job commenting on smaller fighters.
