Would have been a very close fight. Would slightly lean towards Sharkey. Schaaf is a underrated fighter.

I think Sharkey was Schaaf's manager that may be why they never fought.

It's a confusing era because in most era there are some guys who are clearly the elite whereas in that era people who were seemingly in the top 5 would suddenly lose to guys they seemingly had no business losing to. It my be because they fought more frequently and were more likely to have off-nights.

Right. But if we still match them in the hypothetical bout, it's not so easy to say. Probably it would have been a close fight indeed.

Schaaf would get the better of Sharkey by using quicker jabs and combinations to take a decision in 10 rounds in my opinion.
