Wanheng Menayothin to break Floyd Mayweather's 50-0 record in 2018?

Doesn't seem to be in a hurry... had won three fights by this time last year.

He may well be on the verge of being beaten actually. Even if he breaks Floyd's 50-0 mark I expect a loss will be coming to him soon after.

More to being an All Time Great than just the numbers.
Mayweather you could argue MAY be Top 15 to Top 25 of all time. Any higher than that is a stretch.

Leonard from the 1980's.paddy chavez wrote: ↑28 Jun 2018, 15:17
Really ? Out of interest who is the last guy you rate above Floyd ,as in how far back in time .
Floyd's definitely the #1 guy of the 21st century so far I'll give him that without argument.

Sounds like his record is loaded with BS, if you read the fight notes from the draws.

I'd agree the Leonard is the last fighter better than Floyd but I don't think there's 20 other fighters before Ray that we're better than Floyd myself . Take away Robinson and Armstrong and it gets debatable and is the sport the same now as when willy pep was boxing or grebb . personally I have Floyd top 10 without a doubt maybe he never had that defining fight but did Louis or monzon . I'm not a Floyd fan boy I don't think but he's bar far the best defensive fighter I've ever seen and unlike say Whitaker he counters with extreme accuracy ...gilgamesh wrote: ↑28 Jun 2018, 15:20Leonard from the 1980's.paddy chavez wrote: ↑28 Jun 2018, 15:17

At the end of his career, yeah. He was basically just doing exhibitions by that point. Not even sure why they'd count as actual fights. Doesn't discount what he did prior, though.JCS wrote: ↑28 Jun 2018, 15:37Sounds like his record is loaded with BS, if you read the fight notes from the draws.

Whitaker was supremely accurate, too. He just threw a much higher volume of punches, thus missing more. Past a certain point in his career, Floyd's minimalist offensive approach (relying primarily on countering with singular shots) was pretty much tailored to result in highly efficient punch-stat numbers. That doesn't mean it was more effective on the whole.paddy chavez wrote: ↑28 Jun 2018, 15:45I'm not a Floyd fan boy I don't think but he's bar far the best defensive fighter I've ever seen and unlike say Whitaker he counters with extreme accuracy ...gilgamesh wrote: ↑28 Jun 2018, 15:20Leonard from the 1980's.paddy chavez wrote: ↑28 Jun 2018, 15:17

But he was better Floyd that is ...Pernell looked great in highlights but he took way more shots than Floyd I'd go as far as saying that many people have hyped Pernell way beyond what he actually achieved ,who did Pernell ever beat? Even the Chavez fight ..Chavez lost to Randell 5 months later he was shot before he fought Whitaker it was his 90th fight ...Abradolf Lincler wrote: ↑28 Jun 2018, 15:55Whitaker was supremely accurate, too. For the record this is my list of guys ahead of Floydpaddy chavez wrote: ↑28 Jun 2018, 15:45I'd agree the Leonard is the last fighter better than Floyd but I don't think there's 20 other fighters before Ray that we're better than Floyd myself . 1. Sugar Ray Robinson
2. Sam Langford
3. Ezzard Charles
4. Harry Greb
5. Henry Armstrong
6. Willie Pep
7. Roberto Duran
8. Muhammad Ali
9. Archie Moore
10. Sugar Ray Leonard
11. Joe Louis
12. Benny Leonard
13. Gene Tunney
14. Mickey Walker
15. Barney Ross
16. Joe Gans
Floyd comes in at 17 on my list. If you wanted to bump him up or down a few notches I wouldn't argue with you, but I think I got him ranked about right.
I'd agree with you that Floyd is better than Whitaker. Certainly in terms of offense, and ability to counter effectively. Whitaker was a fantastic defensive wizard, but didn't quite have the offensive tools, and of course didn't have the discipline of Floyd to truly get the best out of himself over the long haul.

Just the way it is in Thailand. They have their Ring Name, and their Family name. Most fighters in Thailand have a Ring name they fight under.Sequitorian wrote: ↑28 Jun 2018, 16:26 So what's with the two names? ... ya gotta think that either one of those names would be enough for anybody ...

Just a tradition over there I suppose or a cultural thing.
Fighting in general is a much more revered and admired profession in that country than it is here.

These Thai fighters are often renowned for building up impressive records, but how much is against world class opposition?
Just numbers, but is there substance?

Usually very few. Of Menayothin's lofty numbers probably only a handful were over particularly respectable opponents.SenorPipino wrote: ↑28 Jun 2018, 17:31 These Thai fighters are often renowned for building up impressive records, but how much is against world class opposition?

World class opposition is a pretty tall order for a 105 pounder though. He's beaten three guys who are still top 10 in the division, that's at least something.

going for 51-0 at the end of the month
only 12-1 (9) pedro 'rattle snake' taduran stands in his way

Disagree. Some of the fighters Leonard beat were better than Floyd. Duran. And as far as boxing ability goes, no one has actually outboxed Hearns. Everyone who beat him fought him straight up and had to knock him out.paddy chavez wrote: ↑28 Jun 2018, 15:45I'd agree the Leonard is the last fighter better than Floyd but I don't think there's 20 other fighters before Ray that we're better than Floyd myself . Duran's an easy top 10 fighter maybe top 5 , I'm a massive Hearns fan but he did have some weakness in strength and stamina .IKSRTFO wrote: ↑01 Aug 2018, 22:41Disagree.
