Re: Lennox Lewis’ Thoughts on AJ & Wilder
Watch the latest Hearn interview on IFL's Youtube channel. These points are covered. The Venue and date are locked in if Wilder wants it. They still have the contract with terms which were initially agreed to. The fight is there for Wilders team to accept or decline (AJ;s next fight after Povetkin)Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑28 Jun 2018, 18:12Basically.
Why doesn’t Wilder get a rematch clause.?
Why no confirmation of venue..

If it is locked in it would be in the contract

oh, so now i guess neither side likes uncertain details

Both have now been confirmed. April in the UK. Just waiting on the signaturestiny_acres wrote: ↑28 Jun 2018, 22:01 Both parties have stated venue and date are not on the contract.

Re: Lennox Lewis’ Thoughts on AJ & Wilder
I think the WBAs statement smashes the illusion that wilder is throwing out there.
They basically say he has had a contract and hasn't signed it, so they are enforcing povetkin.
If wilder and his team had any sense they'd take the 5m offer for a UK fight, then take the April 13th date at Wembley. He would walk away either undisputed champion and very very very rich or no champion and very very very rich.
Does there always need to be instant rematch clauses? Personally I don't believe there should be. Rematches usually occur because they are a close fight or a robbery.
Chances are this fight ends in KO for one of the guys, so do we need to see it again.

Hearn was bragging about not getting stripped because they filed some paperwork and fury got stripped because he didn't file paperwork. He was smug about that. This time he didn't file paperwork with the WBA to prevent being stripped.nitro5912 wrote: ↑29 Jun 2018, 03:54 I think the WBAs statement smashes the illusion that wilder is throwing out there.

People complain about wilder team taking their time going over the contract but the same people were saying Joshua and hearn need time to go over their contract when the wilder team sent one.
I think hearn probably didnt file the paperwork in order to force the wilder camp to sign a contract with no rematch clause and no venue and probably actually wanted the povetkin fight since Joshua fills out another stadium, makes decent money and starts the fight at least 1/10 at the bookies.

Re: Lennox Lewis’ Thoughts on AJ & Wilder
What seems unfair to me is that Wilder and his team offered $50m to fight in the US (Vegas?) and Hearn is on tape admitting that he was sure the funds were available. Hearn and AJ (speaking via Hearn and his "team") say that they deserve the fight in England despite it not making as much money. This goes against everything Hearn stands for in "getting the best financial deal possible for my clients".
Hearn then makes an increased offer to Wilder of $15m and and is now saying that the fight must be in April. He's making out Wilder doesn't want it but the truth is the offer was better in the states and AJ and him did not want to give up control of the fight. Presumably because Hearn desperately doesn't want AJ on Showtime (that relationship looks dead as Hearn will now only work with DAZN).
Hearn is always banging on about Wilder and his team using AJ's name to make the fight and attract the $50m but Hearn is doing the same to try and prove to his paymasters at Access Industries that he can deliver on the DAZN deal.
Hearn has shown that he won't ever let someone else promote a show for AJ, which is further backed up by his statement to Kugan that he wouldn't let AJ fight Povetkin in Russia. It would be funny now if World of Boxing actually reneged on the deal Hearn has talked about for the Povetkin fight and push for purse bids. If they come in big like they did for Wlad, then almost certainly AJ gets stripped.
Who's really ducking?

Good post. Not sure Hearn would lose a purse bid for an AJ fight. This Wilder fight is going to be worth a good few quid so I reckon he would come in heavy vs the Russians in purse bid. Might still get destroyed though as they got Wlad to come to Russia or get stripped. Strangely Wlad got away with one of the most pathetic performances I have ever seen in terms of holding.
As far as Hearn avoiding the fight, I can see why they want it in the UK. Its a big advantage. Joshua is the A Side overall but Wilder is the A Side in America. He would have major support to bring the belts home. Joshua wont get away with his punches after the bell and punches to floored opponents in America. He may walk through Wilder with ease though, who knows.

Re: Lennox Lewis’ Thoughts on AJ & Wilder
Financially this makes way more sense to all involved (other than Joshua probably) being in the UK than in the states. Wilder wouldn't clear $15m paying a guaranteed $50m to AJ; the man does hardly any views, I can't see millions of Americans suddenly paying $100 to watch him in his first real 50/50 fight.
It makes sense for Joshua to concede financially to get the fight over here too, as the PPV figures for the UK, where the money will be for him, will be far higher at 10pm on a Saturday rather than 5am on a Sunday.

Re: Lennox Lewis’ Thoughts on AJ & Wilder
You're right that it does make more sense over here, for sure. But Hearn is acting like they never made the offer and its all on them to sign. They turned down that offer for $50m. Wilders team could say what Hearn is saying, in effect, that AJ doesnt want the fight.

Ironic in a way though because if it was Lewis he’d have signed for the $50m and then gone to the US and knocked Wilder’s head off, earning big money and showing the US how you do it.

I think the thing is though, Lewis would never have taken Joshua certainly as lightly as he did McCall and Rahman, that was Lewis' one achilles heel,. his arrogance, which meant he didn't take his preparations at all seriously for Rahman, he was clearly blowing out of his arse because he hadn't spent enough time at altitude to acclimatise. Wilder, who knows, I'm not sure that Lewis would have seen him as much of a threat.
Lewis would have murderised them both, Joshua's way too stiff to have won, and Wilder lacks the technique.

I’m a big fan of Lewis - I wish he’d have boxed Bowe though.

Re: Lennox Lewis’ Thoughts on AJ & Wilder
vs mcall the count got to like 9, the ref waited a few more seconds after that to look over lewis, but lewis was still staggering around and actually fell into the ref...he may have even gone down again without the refs support.
very clear case of a guy trying to show hes okay but clearly his body wasnt agreeing with him. he wouldve had more of a case to continue if get been up by like 2 and staggerign around at 3, but hed already had plenty of time and was still all over
fine stoppage for me

Maybe,it's been a while since i've seen it but i've been watching a lot of the old 70's title fights and they used to get several chances and quite often recovered.jamamb wrote: ↑29 Jun 2018, 17:41 vs mcall the count got to like 9, the ref waited a few more seconds after that to look over lewis, but lewis was still staggering around and actually fell into the ref...he may have even gone down again without the refs support.
