Andrew Golota vs Axel Schulz

Post by DrDuke »

Two top fighters of their times, who notoriously failed to win titles three times in a row and not without controversies.

How could their fight go with them both being in prime conditions - Golota in Bowe fights shape, Schulz in his title fights shape?

Golota by UD assuming he doesn't explode with some crazy action like low blows etc. Both would beat Mavrovic in my opinion. Shulz actually beat Zeljko in the amateurs. Axel was pretty good - I had him winning against Foreman 115-113 and beating Botha 116-113. Moorer beat him fair and square though. I had that fight 116-112 for Moorer.

Shulz being robbed in his native country in the Botha figt still stands as one of the craziest outcome in boxing history. It's happens very rarely when boxer is robbed in his native country. But at that time Don King, who was Botha's promoter, was mighty figure in the boxing.

Golota was more skillful, I'd also say, that he would have taken the decision. Schulz was pretty one-dimensional boxer, a tough one, but not creative at all. So Golota would have been too much for him.

Not sure about Schulz vs Mavrovic. It could have gone another way in pros.

And I agree with your evaluation of Schulz's title decisions.

Golota wins this one with his jab. He'd take it by UD.

I think Golota wins this one, too many better and bigger weapons and I don't think Axel spooks him........

...........the proviso being that Andrew is fully compos mentis, which of course was never a given.
