Joe Smith Jr.: What's next?
He has said he is now chasing a fight with Kovalev. I do rate Smith, he's done well and has demonstrated he can hang in there, however apart from Barrera, he hasn't really fought a top contender. Russell was a good comeback win, confident booster, but I think he needs a few fights against some top conteders. There's plenty out there.
Juergen Braehmer, Anthony Yarde, Marcus Browne, Karo Murat, Badou Jack or Jean Pascal?
May not all be easy to make, but would be good challenges. A Pascal fight might be the most beneficial or even Braehmer.

Re: Joe Smith Jr.: What's next?
Joe says he wants Kov. Im not sure he is quite ready. Personally I want him to have another go at Barrera.
I know, it's a stiff test. But if it were not for the broken jaw, who knows
and I would like to find out. Someone needs to beat some defence into Joe first, he is a bit easy to hit.
Kov next year would be OK, I see the Krusher slipping, ripe for 2019

Think he’d lose that.. unless Jack gives rounds away.
Re: Joe Smith Jr.: What's next?
brahmer and murat are top contenders but fonfara and hopkins werent? whatever the terms, not sure id say the first pair were better then the second
id like to see him vs salamov/hooper/yarde/shabransky types. guys maybe outside top 10 but inside top 20 or 25. then if he wins step up

Never said they weren't. Those fights were before his loss. I'm now talking about the present time. He has to get back to fighting those contendersjamamb wrote: ↑03 Jul 2018, 02:39 brahmer and murat are top contenders but fonfara and hopkins werent? whatever the terms, not sure id say the first pair were better then the second

Re: Joe Smith Jr.: What's next?
you said hes never fought a top contender aside from barrera, just seems weird to phrase it that way and ignore fon and hop while listing guys like murat
but ya, in his 1 fight since the barrera loss he hasnt fought a top contender
