Minor Title changes?
Minor Title changes?
In my effort to get the best fights made, I've been thinking about having some minor changes to the minor titles. Currently, the IBO you have to face a non-US fighter to defend. The MGM you have to face a US based fighter to defend. Obviously the CW title has to be defended against CW competition.
I was thinking about dropping where the opponent has to be from for the IBO and MGM belts. I think that would open up a lot more options for fights to be made.
What does everyone think? If most are up for it, I'll implement these changes in week 13 or 14.

Re: Minor Title changes?
It's definitely put a halt on potential matchups for sure. I would've likely already had Holyfield or Norton challenge for the IBO or MGM if it would've been possible.
Re: Minor Title changes?
Well, they both could challenge for the MGM, though if we get rid of the nationality rulings, they'd be eligible for both belts.
Re: Minor Title changes?
I'm not matching Norton up against Liston for the MGM Title. If I'm gonna throw him to the wolves there's gonna have to AT LEAST be a World Title on the line. Because hell he's been beaten when I put him in matches I felt confident he could win. I honestly wouldn't like his chances much against Liston.
Holyfield could hang with Liston I think, but I'm not gonna put him in THAT tough when he's coming straight off of a KO loss.
Re: Minor Title changes?
I'm open to changing the availability options for the minor titles... The only reason that I suggested such was to gave each of the straps a distinctive identity as it were...
But if it hasn't captured the imaginations of the sim public, we can always change it and make them open to guys ranked sub 20.

Re: Minor Title changes?
Just wanted to see what anyone else thought?
Also, should we keep the MGM/IBO for fighters ranked 16 or lower? Allow acceptations?

Re: Minor Title changes?
I sort of like the experimental approaches...so anything you think might improve the overall experience is ok by me.
Once the rules are made, we like to do our part by making in difficult, by asking difficult questions, challenging the status quo, causing confusion etc.
Tossing titles, knocking over the very tallest fighters, proposing inter gender skirmishes, challenging any and all precedents, and simply going about the business of being the very best simulated pugilistic conglomerate the world has ever witnessed.
It's what we do.

Re: Minor Title changes?
Since a minor title has now been unified, just wanted to add a poll to get ideas how people felt.
Also of note, the possibility that both titles don't have to be defended at once is included in yes. For example, Gomez holds the IBO/CW belts. If a HW from the US was to challenge him, he couldn't defend the IBO because it is for non-US fighters. The HW is also not a CW, so he would need to defend that belt as well, which would cause him to decline.

Re: Minor Title changes?
I'd say under the circumstances of the current Champion if Gomez should defend against a Cruiserweight both titles are on the line, and if he defends against a Heavyweight the IBO is on the line, but Gomez would remain Cruiserweight Champ since his opponent wasn't a Cruiserweight.armageto wrote: ↑05 Jul 2018, 16:39 Since a minor title has now been unified, just wanted to add a poll to get ideas how people felt.

Re: Minor Title changes?
That is my point to the poll. Right now, if rules stand as is, the IBO/CW belts are only going to be available to CW's who don't reside in the US. By allowing both titles not to be defended at once, Gomez in this example could challenge a HW for the IBO, while not having to defend his CW belt for that week. He also could fight a US based CW now, with the new ruling, for both belts. Just trying to get more availability for fights in general and chances for other guys to have title shots. As it stands, Gomez is running low on opponents he hasn't faced.gilgamesh wrote: ↑07 Jul 2018, 13:15I'd say under the circumstances of the current Champion if Gomez should defend against a Cruiserweight both titles are on the line, and if he defends against a Heavyweight the IBO is on the line, but Gomez would remain Cruiserweight Champ since his opponent wasn't a Cruiserweight.armageto wrote: ↑05 Jul 2018, 16:39 Since a minor title has now been unified, just wanted to add a poll to get ideas how people felt.

Re: Minor Title changes?
since he has both, I think alternating defenses is a good Idea, and if he were to lose the IBO to a heavyweight he would obviously remain Cruiser champ
Re: Minor Title changes?
A lot of votes coming in, so we'll implement the possible change in week 14.
Re: Minor Title changes?
Changes coming in week 14:
1. There will be no country restrictions on opponents when defending MGM/IBO Titles.
2. If somebody has the IBO/MGM along with the CW title at the same time, they can chose to defend the IBO/MGM against a HW, while still maintaining the CW Title.
3. CW/IBO/MGM titles are aimed for fighters outside the top 15. However, due to a few busy managers, we don't have the usual activity of all managed fighters. Also, we have two CW's actually ranked inside the top 15, with a few others close. The commission is willing to make waivers in certain minor title fights in regards to this rule in order to have the best fights made. In saying that, top fighters in the sim ranked in the top 15 (You know who you are!), shouldn't actively be attempting to pick up minor belts.
