Robbie Davies Signs Deal With Matchroom, Fights Glenn Foot

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

Liverpool super lightweight Robbie Davies Jr (16-1, 12 KOs) has signed a three-fight deal with Matchroom Boxing.

The 28-year-old Merseysider will make his Matchroom debut when the promotional outfit return to Newcastle for a show later this year.

Davies Jr will fight for the vacant British 140lbs title against Glenn Foot (23-3, 7 KOs) who will put his Commonwealth belt on the line as well.

“I’m happy to get a deal with Matchroom,” Davies Jr told Boxing Scene tonight (July 5).

“It’s the platform I need to move forward and achieve what I’m capable of. I’m happy to be fighting for the British and Commonwealth (titles), it’s a dream for every fighter who turns professional. Glen Foot is a tough man and I’m under no illusion that this is an easy task, but like me he loves a war so I’m more than happy to oblige and meet him in the middle.

“It will be a great fight for the fans and one I’m more than confident I will come through in good fashion.”

Promoter Eddie Hearn confirmed on Twitter that the fight would be part of their second visit to Newcastle, their first was co-headlined by Josh Kelly andLewis Ritson last month.

“Working on new fights for the season. @RobbieDaviesJr v @glenn_foot for the British & Commonwealth light welter title done deal for Newcastle show to be announced soon - welcome to the team both of you, may the best man win!”

The career of Davies Jr got back on track in March when he gained revenge over Poland’s Michel Syrowatka (TKO 12) who had beat him with the same result in July last year. Davies Jr, who spoke to Boxing Scene recently about that win said: “At the time there was a lot of pressure on me because obviously the fashion that I lost, not many people would have taken an immediate rematch.

Glenn Foot isn't an easy night for anybody. On a second wind in his career and the drop to light welter has paid dividends. Thought he got shafted against Leather and then still came out and really beat up Jason Easton. I think he'll be too tough for Davies. Davies will have to do something special to stop him otherwise Glenn will still be after him right up to the final bell.

This is another great scrap, Foot will bring it and he seems to be in the form of his career despite the loss to Leather, winning the Commonwealth will have done wonders for his confidence too, he gave an absolute pasting to Easton, it was a tough watch in the end, I was glad to see Davies Jr avenged the loss to Syrowatka, his head mustve been all over the place going into that first fight, he's a good strong hard hitting fighter himself, probably has more in the locker than Foot but maybe lacks Foot's resolve

I think its gonna be a tough night for Davies Jr, I can see Foot maybe overwhelming him down the stretch, he's tried and tested at this level

Rough tough fight that for both men, staggered that their faces lasted 12 rounds after the mess they were after 3, not a great fight though, styles just didn't gel and there was too much holding from both men, especially Foot, I thought Davies Jr was the clear winner, had him taking it 118-111, he never hurt Foot but he countered him comfortably more and more each passing round, the left hand counter from the southpaw stance was his best and most used shot of the night, he had success as an orthodox as well but fought mainly as southpaw

Foot as always never stopped coming forward and making it ugly in there but he just couldn't launch as sustained attack, looked like a couple of single shots might have registered on Davies Jr but he was easily tied up, Davies Jr cruised down the stretch and his class showed in the end, Foot just looked a bit crude

Not as bad as Okolie/Askin or Catterall/Davies but still a pretty shitty fight
