Watching boxing without Sky+

Post by revporl »

Hiya

The monthly cost of Sky sports has become prohibitive so we're going to switch down to a mix of freeview and Now TV. I can;t justify the cost of Sky sports subscription with the current mediocre boxing offer, I'm not a football fan really and all the big fights, and now the not so big fights, are moving over to PPV its not worth £20 every month.

allegedly is available on Freeview if the device can be plugged into the internet. Is it available on FreeSat too? Do you get the HD channel or just the regular fuzzy Bunce? Will I need to cancel my Sky BN Subscription and get an online one?

I've seen that you can get a Now TV Sports pass for £7 for 24 hrs which would be ok for watching the odd bill once every 2 months but what is the quality like on Now TV, its not HD is it? Is it poor?

Any other tips or suggestions? I managed to virus up my PC trying to watch VK vs Chisora a while ago so not going for the dodgy streaming option again!

Thanks in advance,
Paul

Also...

What about Sky Box office? Is it possible to view Box Office on Now TV?

Sky Box Office is available on Now TV. B0xnati0n via freeview wasn't HD when I tried it but that might have changed. Streams on Now TV are very reliable and picture quality is very good. B0xnati0n stream on Freeview was not bad but a little choppy at times. Never froze or stopped

What I would add is remeber Eddie's American cards on DAZN will also be shown on SKY Sports. With his UK cards and State side shows, along with any other cards featuring his fighter's on the road like Rocky Fielding in Germany, SKY won't be far off 40 live fight nights over the next 12 months. Could get expensive via Now TV passes whilst SKY Sports Action / Arena is only £18 per month if taken on their own.

Is there a catchup service with Now tv? There is with the entertainment pass? If so maybe buy a week per month and watch the previous months bills over a week?

It's been nowhere near this over the last year, not even half at a guess and an increasing number of bills have gone over to PPV that shouldn't have, a trend that seems to be getting worse with Whyte v Parker.
Sorry to sound a bit sceptical but I don't think it'll be as comprehensive a programme as you say by some distance.

Yeah, absolutely no chance it will be that many. The non-PPV UK cards are few and far between as it is, they’ll probably reduce even further if Matchroom starts putting on US shows as well.

I'd be interested to know how many standard Sky Sports fight nights there have been in the last 12 months; I think it would struggle to reach double figures without the Next Gen shows.
