Ramirez v O'Connor Off

Post by Greg Houston »

The bout for the WBC Super Lightweight title which was due to take place on Saturday has been called off after O'Connor was hospitalised earlier.

Ken Casey of Murphys Boxing posted on Facebook that Danny collapsed coming out the sauna and EMTs suspected his kidneys had shut down.

Really hope that he makes a full recovery.

Anybody using a sauna to lose weight for boxing is an idiot and any trainer who tells a boxer to use a sauna should be stripped off his licence immediately

I know that in the UK if you're found to be cutting by using a sauna then the fight will be called off. I don't know how it is in California though.

When I read the news I did think that Danny had been stupid doing so, but regardless of this the main concern now is seeing him make a recovery.

Hearn regularly brags about his dad sitting in saunas with fighters. Didn’t Eddie himself sit with McDonnell before Inuoe? That turned out well...

Not heard about Eddie and McDonnell.

Barry Hearn did with Purdy before the Devon Alexander fight.

Didn't know that about the Hearns.
I'm going on a steward telling me at a weigh in that if they knew someone was cutting by using a sauna on the day they wouldn't be allowed in the scales. Might just have been if they failed at the first attempt and trying to lose a pound or two in the one hour they were given.
