compared to some other world title fights no. its not the fight most fans wanted next but its a mandatory at the end of the day and it has to happen. Joshua will most likely win though

Mismatch? Povetkin is like the #2 HW on the planet. He absolutely destroyed Wach and Price. It's quite hilarious that Wilder struggles with C- fighters like Molina and Szpilka, but Povetkin gets touched by one of the hardest punchers in the division, and he's completely discounted.

By the way, getting wobbled by Price is nothing compared to getting almost stopped by an old, fat HW like Ortiz.

Povetkin is a top HW. Only lost to a prime Klitschko, so is a danger to anyone.

Opening this post, I did not know how to vote (and I did not vote).
Povetkin belongs to the top ten HWs (the decade, I think), but he could not do anything against Wlad.
If Povetkin (the younger and better version) has been defeated convincingly by Wlad, than I really can not imagine the way for him to beat Joshua (very similar type of boxer, with strength, size and power). I might be wrong, of course...............

I mean Povetkin is at worst the 4th best Heavyweight in the division at the moment I'd say. So It's certainly a reasonable matchup I'd say. Not the BIGGEST possible matchup, but certainly not what I'd consider a mismatch.

He is still very dangerous. Not as dangerous as he was a few years ago, but still very dangerous.
One punch changes everything.
Povitkin has that one punch power.

Stylewise, I don't think Povetkin matches up well with Joshua. He's just set to collide head on with a bigger, fresher foe who can bang behind some basic but solid fundamentals. Povetkin's style would have a better chance at catching Wilder.

On the first look everything seems to be against Povetkin: age, size, fight against Klitschko. Eddie has already booked the date and the arena for AJ's next fight after Povetkin and this is when Povetkin fight isn't even announced officially. But Sasha is no less dangerous than Wilder, he can ruin all plans with one punch. They can eventually need the booked date in 2019 for the rematch.

Povetkin's a junky and he'll probably F this fight up during the testing phase.

Povetkin is still one of the top guys in the division and a solid mandatory so no it's not a mismatch. I expect a Joshua KO but Povetkin has good ability and decent power, certainly enough to trouble AJ if he lands. AJ hasn't looked great his last couple of fights either has he!

Klitschko was old and semi-retired. The fight with Parker showed there are holes there. He couldn't touch Parker with it. I just hope they get a fair referee this time.

I remember how Lewis' team booked a date for Tua fight in November BEFORE Lewis faced Grant and Botha. Povetkin, of course, is much more dangerous opponent than Grant and Botha though

Of course it’s not a mismatch. I suspect it will turn out to be a very bad style/size matchup for Povetkin, but that doesn’t mean it’s a mismatch.

How can a top 6 in the world heavyweight be on the wrong end of a mismatch ?

Joshua may crush him early but even if does it's no mismatch.

All the top 50 boxers are named including some previous top contenders and all the boxers that fought each other got a line in between them with the winner ranked the highest.

If I forgot a match, please tell me.

Except for Tyson Fury, Miller and some guys he already won against, there is nobody higher is there?
As soon as he won against Tyson Fury, he's undisputed.

I don't get some of the "levelling" on there. For example Adam Kownacki, with one win over Szpilka, is "perched" higher than Wilder who has several wins on the chart. Wilder should be up higher than Kownacki, higher than Miller (3 wins), and at least even with Whyte and Parker and probably above. He has no losses like Fury and Joshua so he could be on the top line, too.

So I don't think a win over Fury makes Joshua undisputed unless you just keep Wilder down on the chart because that's where you placed his name. Or maybe I'm wrong and people are clamoring for Joshua vs. Kownacki instead?

Yes, a mismatch - in favor of the Vityaz man! That's why they will come up with an excuse not to put one of their two preciouses, this time Joshua, in the ring with him, just as they did with Wilder. They want to keep the heavyweight title a private affair in the USSA and USSK. They don't want big bad Russians spoiling their party!

Mismatch? No.

Inconvenient for the division? Yes.

At 39, Povetkin knows this is his last shot at ANYTHING in this sport. He has looked like crap against Rudenko and Hammer, and looked (for a time) vulnerable against Price. He's certainly dipped in power and ability, since Duhapas, and we can argue that's 99.99% because of him being popped for PEDs and has been fighting clean ever since.

Joshua's no Superman, as Parker demonstrated, but it's likely that he'll find his range with Povetkin. It'll be a nice little scrap, but will probably end in 5-6 rounds.

AJ has an 82" reach, he's 6'6" (in comparison, Povetkin has a 75" reach and is 6'2"), and is a monster hitter in his own right. As long as Povetkin doesn't land anywhere near that face, AJ should be fine.

How did he "look like crap" against Rudenko and Hammer? He won every round of both fights. Then, of course, comes the standard canard about drugs again!

What was your problem with them, that there wasn't a knock out? They're both big tough guys. Rudenko has never been stopped; Hammer has been stopped only once in the last eight years.
