Saunders vs Andrade , who wins this fight and how ?

Post by apollo creed »

"Looks like former WBO 154 lbs. champion Demetrius Andrade when the time come ,will be designated mandatory challenger for BJ Sanders,” World Boxing Org said on their Twitter.

Both are incative and unwilling to step up type of fighters , so it would be interesting to see if the deal gets made.

We've talked about this before, Demetrius Andrade is not interested in facing Billy Joe Saunders, since he made the following claims in January:

"Demetrius Andrade doesn’t want to face Billy Joe Saunders… just yet!"

To paraphrase some of the key points that Demetrius Andrade articulated in this video:

• “Before the Lemieux fight, Billy Joe was willing to get into the ring with me and I told him to handle what he’s got to handle… and Lemieux is easy if you’re six feet and you know how to box, know how to move, it’s a walk in the park.”

• “HBO offered me Lemieux and I said I’d fight him two times… and [Team Lemieux] said they won’t take the fight due to high risk-low reward…”

• “I know that Billy Joe Saunders would fight me. I think he’s a confident guy that’s willing to get into the ring and put whatever he got on the line…”

• “[Would I like to fight Saunders next?]… No! I’d like to fight one more fighter at 160lbs and then fight him…”

• “[Fighting Gary "Spike" O'Sullivan] would be a good step-up fight for me as far as weight. I still believe I need to put on a little bit more muscle, put a little bit more weight on, so I can hang with the long distance, the smothering, the holding, [because] that shít takes a toll on people.”

• “Saunders has some good boxing ability and some good footwork. Saunders is a big dude. So what I’m saying is for me to be able to beat down a big dude, I think I need to put on a little more weight the proper way.”

• “You can tell Saunders is a big guy…”

"BILLY JOE SAUNDERS NEXT, NO. IM HAPPY TO FIGHT THE GUY W/ THE MOUSTACHE! (SPIKE) - DEMETRIUS ANDRADE"

For the record, at some point or other, Canelo, Golovkin, Lemieux and Eubank Jr. have all previously declined guaranteed opportunities to face Saunders, with the Brit having already accepted the terms proposed to him, whilst others, such as Avtandil Khurtsidze, have actually preferred to take step-aside money rather than face him.

And it seems that Demetrius Andrade is another fighter that isn't tempted to engage in a bout against the trash-talking Brit... at least not just yet! :yay:

He says he wants to put on more muscle before facing a true 160 pounder like Saunders.

But wasn't Andrade eagerly volunteering a few months back to step in against Golovkin for the Cinco de Mayo date?

He wasn't concerned about adapting to the weight then.

People's opinions often change when the opportunity to earn a massive payday presents itself.

And besides, it's easy for a fighter to say they're willing to take on an imaginary huge challenge when it simply isn't going to happen in reality.

Andrade-Saunders can be made. Andrade-Golovkin probably will never even be considered.

They certainly do, just look at Kell Brook. One minute he is saying that forcing himself down to welterweight nearly killed him, the next minute he is calling out Khan, knowing that the Khan fight will happen at welterweight (if it happens at all)

Having big dollar signs in their eyes clearly distorts a fighter's vision.

That probably makes sense.

The money for a Golovkin title shot would undoubtedly surpass the purse for a Saunders bout.

Too good to pass by. If you lose big, you can just say that you didn't have sufficient time to prepare properly.

And as you say, getting the sudden Golovkin bout was probably a longshot for Andrade so he could talk confidently.

Saunders by being a better wrestler and having friendly UK judges.

Hard to imagine Andrade doing enough effective work to capture a decision in the UK.

Probably not even in the US.

If Saunders trains properly he wins this.

Can't say the same against Charlo though.

I thought both of these guys were retired? No?

Here's what happens...the fight gets signed for September. Come July, the fight gets cancelled by Saunders (claims a sprained middle finger on both hands) because Canelo gets caught with a needle sticking out of his arm at a press conference for his fight with GGG. GGG decides not to fight BJS and fights Ricardo Mayorga instead. Saunders then claims his middle fingers are healed and decides to fight Andrade in December only to cancel it a week before because his head isn't into it because Xmas time is too festive to fight plus he'd like to break the professional record of cancelling or postponing 8 times in the last 3 years.

Yawn.

Just to reiterate a point I previously made in this thread, which was also supplemented with video evidence...

Demetrius Andrade is not currently interested in fighting Billy Joe Saunders, even if the WBO eventually instate the American as the Brit’s mandatory challenger.

The American will likely prefer to accept multiple step-aside fees to allow Saunders to engage in a catchweight fight against James DeGale and then try to unify the middleweight titles against the winner of the Canelo-GGG rematch.

Saunders has very recently talked about preferring to vacate his WBO championship if he was forced to choose between exploiting an opportunity to receive a big payday or performing a mandatory defence of his title against an anonymous opponent for peanuts, which Andrade is.

The WBO have announced within the last ten minutes that Andrade and Saunders must agree terms for the Brit's mandatory defence of his title within the next ten days, otherwise a purse bid will be ordered.

If the American refrains from stepping aside, I'd expect Saunders to vacate his title in preference of exploiting an opportunity to earn a huge payday to face James DeGale instead.

I feel that Andrade and Saunders aren't too excited about the prospect of facing each other, because both men won't want to risk their unbeaten records to engaging in a low-key small payday affair.

A defeat for either man scuppers their opportunity to face the likes of Canelo or GGG.

Would anyone be excited about seeing Demetrius Andrade face Walter Kautondokwo for the vacant WBO title?

Has he ever been interested to take a challenge since defeating Vanes?

There's an article that's just been published on The RING website where the author doubts Andrade's willingness to take the fight.

In stark contrast, Billy Joe Saunders has claimed that he’s 100% ready to face Andrade in September and that he wants his handlers (MTK Global & Fɍȁnk Wȁɍɍȅn) to make the fight.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I really doubt that we’ll get to see a bout between Andrade and Saunders during the current calendar year. I just don’t think it’ll happen for a variety of reasons, but I wouldn’t mind being proven wrong, because it’ll be a good strategic scrap.

Dunno what the script with Billy is either. A bit suspect pulling out of the Murray fight twice! Seems happier driving around shouting at junky hookers from his car and filming it!

I believe the majority of the boxing world suspect that Billy Joe's true motivation for withdrawing from the Murray bout twice was to make himself available to face GGG... and even Tom Loeffler confirmed that this was definitely the case at least once.

The Brit will deny this, of course, but the timing's of these alleged injuries were far too coincidental to be anything other than a strategic ploy.

I'd love to watch this fight so don't get me wrong but what in the hell did Andrade do in order for the WBO to make him a mandatory? lol. I mean really. Come on. Andrade's had 6 fights in 5 years against garbage and has only 1 fight at middleweight. Pathetic but not surprising.
