Weaver would have won. Ferguson was tough, but still he was a clear journeyman. Weaver had a lot of losses, but still he was a top competitior. Ferguson has almost never won against the top opposition, probably it was only unprepared Mercer, cause Douglas fight was a robbery. Weaver won some big names and gave a much better counteraction to other ones. Mike fought pretty good against Holmes, he was able to provide a comeback in an absolutely blown fight against Tate for the World championship, then he knocked out Coetzee to defend it. The 2nd Dokes fight was also competetive, some say Weaver was robbed. I'd say, Dokes was robbed, he was rationally outboxing Weaver for the majority of rounds, so Weaver probably didn't do enough for that draw, but still the fight was competetive. All in all, Weaver was a top competitor and too much for Ferguson.

That actually Douglas beat him fair and square. Buster was controlling almost all the action. Jesse had only some separate moments. The ending appeared to be pretty even and grueling for both, but that doesn't mean that Ferguson took over.

And talking about Mercer rematch, yeah, it's still was questionable. Ferguson was a kinda antidote for Mercer.
