Fights next weekend (14th) against an undefeated Argentinian who has fought fairly poor opposition.

I don't think this is part of the WBSS Tournament.

I'm still a bit undecided about him.
Love his style, it sure is entertaining from a fan point of view, but I've seen guys like that before come a right cropper to a hard counter punching opponent.
I disagree about him being all wrong for Taylor. After rewatching the Postol fight on the weekend, I recon Taylor has a decent chance of firstly avoiding the somewhat telegraphed power shots of Prograis, and putting in his own hard counter shots.
Prograis has really good defensive head movement, but his body remains there for the hitting, and we all know know what a devastating body puncher Taylor is...

Prograis reckons he & Baranchyk will make the final of the WBSS NOT Josh Taylor.

Obviously Taylors anti English football tweets have got to him :OhYes:

The Prograis fight tonight is REALLY early. Show starts at 7pm. I don't finish work til 10pm, the bastards

Doesn't look like it mate. Nothing on Sky and Pacquiao is on BN... I'll probably YouTube it in the morning.

He is that bud! Being Scottish, I'm a fully fledged Taylor fan boy but this guy certainly worries me. They'll no doubt end up meeting in this WBSS sooner or later. That's a fight to look forward too! :TU:

Fairly good performance by Prograis. He really takes chances with the way he uses head movement right in the pocket but always looks like hes packing granite in the chin department anyway. The only one who can stand with him in the pocket is probably Spence, who did beat him as an amateur a couple of times. He took his time tonight and invested to the body. By the time it got to the second half of the fight, Velasco was completely slowed down and had to stand in the pocket more. You can't stand in front of Prograis because he's actually difficult to hit clean and throws punches with great technique because he's rolling into them.

Seems to me that Prograis would give Spence the kind of fight he wants. He's craftier but packing less power it seems. Spence is up at 147 though. Not sure who can beat Prograis at 140. Ramirez is right up Prograis street. He throws a lot of punches Prograis can easily avoid and then land his counters. Prograis actually uses a good jab and should really be getting rewarded for good defensive work as he slips most of the shots coming his way. I know Ohara Davies is at British level now but I can't think of a worse style matchup for him than Prograis. Prograis would get inside and destroy him. Taylor put himself right up there with the win over Postol but I don't see him winning the fight on the backfoot vs Prograis.

I saw Prograis getting hit a fair bit but nothing that really caught him proper flush. He looks like he doesn't mind taking shots because hes riding every shot that comes his way. I thought he got hit too much but come to think of it, he's generally deflecting much of the power by riding the shot. Good head movement at all times.

Thanks mate, I haven't seen last night but I have seen people characterise Prograis as a very hittable fighter before, but it always seemed to me his rolling through the shoulders made him fairly defensively responsible given his attacking style. And like you say it's not just that he rolls to avoid shots, he uses the leverage to unload his own punches too.

Cheers. I think Taylor might have more of a shot when I think about it because I think the key to fighting Prograis is to try to give him as little to counter as possible. Throwing a lot of punches at him is actually what he wants. He's trying to draw punches that he can work off. Ramirez throws too many punches. I can see Taylor moving a lot and coming in with fast shots and getting out. He's also able to handle himself inside. I thought that Prograis would beat Taylor because Taylor would move and counter and Prograis would just follow him and counter his counters if you know what I mean but Taylor can probably just try to sharpshoot from the outside, constantly move and he has enough power to keep Prograis honest.

I'd pick Prograis to win the fight but I can see Taylor possibly winning with the right gameplan. Prograis vs Postol would tell us a lot. Postol did a lot of holding on the inside vs Taylor and it worked. I'd like to see Prograis deal with that.

:TU:

One fairly clear advantage I would say Taylor has is he seems lighter on his feet than Prograis, he has the ability the same as Frampton to take a quick half-step back and land good pull-counters, especially with the straight/overhand left. As aggressive as Prograis is he can definitely be walked onto shots in that way. I imagine Taylor's footwork should allow him to create space quite a lot against Prograis

I agree that Prograis is more a front-foot counterpuncher than he first appears it's a good observation that he looks to draw punches to roll off and counter. I guess the key is to win the tactical battle and make him commit first and over-reach himself; he does look like the kind of fighter who can be drawn too far over his front foot with his aggression

About Postols holding, I thought Taylor did a decent job of muscling him around when they clinched, I did think that wore him down a bit and I think Prograis would do the same if they came together a lot, just use his physicality.

Southpaw vs southpaw as ever it would be interesting to see who managed to get the right hand working best. Taylor has shown a great right hook but not too much sustained commitment to the jab, Prograis doesn't seem to fight like a jabber but from what I have seen his jab is heavy and quite consistent, I remember his jab to the body against Indongo was thudding and really pushed Indongo back, Taylor would have to really commit to his jab to maintain space IMO, otherwise I could see Prograis pushing him back with that thudding jab to the body.

Rouarou v Taylor would be a war.

He stopped the 20-0 Argentinian nasty last night. Likes to through the leather around. I’m talking proper leather, not the sort that Froch’s brother Lee wears on his back.
