I think Usyk doubts himself about winning against Gassiev.

Usyk has a habit of getting drawn in to a tear up. The Breidis fight was excellent but he should have used his skills more. He just went for it! If he does that against Gassiev it'll be a big mistake!

Would love to see Breidis v Dorticos :TU:

what are the delays and how do they indicate usyk is afraid? usyk has a great road warrior track record and is going to his opponents country again

The betting public seems to love Gassiev.

This fight opened with Usyk a solid 1-3 favorite. I thought that line was off base and deserved to be much closer.

Apparently wagerers agree and in many quarters, the bout is now listed as pick 'em.

Other books have Usyk the favorite, but only by a modest -130.

I doubt Usyk is afraid. High level champions don't become high level champions by being afraid of opponents.

Respectful perhaps. But afraid? That's ludicrous.

I agree but Gassiev is more like patient breaking down type of fighter with heavy sledge hammers.

its a competitively matched fight, and with it being in russia (esp vs a ukranian ) the odds should be very close, if someone gets generous judging id bet on it being gass not usy

but seriously, apollo tell us what the delays are and how they show usyks scared of gass, dont say theres these scaredy cat delays but then not even bother to elaborate what they are

Team Usyk had some pretensions to the organizers, but those are definitely not the signs of Usyk being afraid. He's a professional athlete, he has defeated Glowacki, Huck and Briedis on their backyards. Probably those were just his team's attempts to somehow increase tension in Gassiev's camp or maybe just some unsubstantiated accusations on the politcal aspect. I don't believe, that it will lead to fight cancellation, both sides need the bout right now.

The Dorticos fight along with Taylor v Postol have been my favourite fights of the year so far.

I know he's not afraid was just a joke, Usyk is the man but he's got his hands full here. Part of me wants to see Usyk box clever but another part of me wants to see a war.... :bag:

Usyk has that Mad Russian look in his eyes, like Rasputin (who, by the way, i have a small connection to in my family history... accounting for my own Mad Russian look perhaps...). I don't think he should have cut off his old crazy Cossack-style bang hanging down over his eyes. I liked it, but i have unconventional tastes in hair do's

So Usyc apparently doesn’t have a trainer having watched the wsob preview show. How much will that effect him in terms of a second perspective, game plan(s), training regime, org appropriate sparring partners. Bit of a concern or he’s just super confident and competent.

He's the kind of fighter who will never really have a trainer in any serious sense. He calls his own shots and listens to himself. Only way he will ever get a proper trainer is if he gets starched.
