Is Jaime Munguia too green?
Re: Is Jaime Munguia too green?
Smiths tough. Very tough. It looked like he took a hell of a lot of leather.
Re: Is Jaime Munguia too green?
solid fight, good test for munguia and good experience going 12 rounds. his engine seems good
it was very easy to see smith wasnt going to fold as weakly as ali did. much more of a fight for munguia was this. shows how feeble ali was.

Re: Is Jaime Munguia too green?
munguia should stay away from the top guys for now. i dont think hes ready and he has lots of time to improve. still VERY raw. but this was still a good win for a 21 year old
Re: Is Jaime Munguia too green?
Agreed.
And no biggie either, given his age, I don't hold anything against the guy for taking another 1-2 fights around the B level before he goes up against the likes of Hurd, Khan, Charlo, or even Brook for now.
I'd love to see Sam Eggington get stuck in, that would be a fight.
Re: Is Jaime Munguia too green?
He would kill khan and eggington even at this stage. The others I agree with.KiwiRider wrote: ↑22 Jul 2018, 00:59Agreed.

Re: Is Jaime Munguia too green?
Eggy is tough enough to give him decent rounds. And Khan is too savvy for him right now.lazboy wrote: ↑22 Jul 2018, 01:21He would kill khan and eggington even at this stage. The others I agree with.KiwiRider wrote: ↑22 Jul 2018, 00:59Agreed.

Re: Is Jaime Munguia too green?
Yes, he's green to some extent. Smith fight was a good experience for him. Credit to Smith, by the way, he was gutsy.

According to Mexi-box Munguia the best 154 in the game.
Re: Is Jaime Munguia too green?
Hurd vs. Munguia would be a cinch for fight of the year, that's for sure. Neither guy could block a punch to save their life but they both have world class chins. I want to see that fight within 2 years.

Re: Is Jaime Munguia too green?
He is green but I'd still like to see him face Charlo. Jermell is more of a slick boxer/puncher than his brother (who's more of a puncher) but he's shown more power over the last couple of years so it would be a fascinating matchup.
Sadly promotional bullshit will probably keep this from happening.

Re: Is Jaime Munguia too green?
Munguia is very easy to hit. He took way too many clean shots from Smith last night and Smith can't break an egg.
Munguia is a big strong kid but unless he learns some defense in a hurry he's going to lose to the first real opponent he faces. He can't keep fighting guys that he outweighs by 20 pounds and be taken seriously.
He's game and he's tough but he has much to learn.

Re: Is Jaime Munguia too green?
maybe he sees now that beating ali at 154 isnt really a huge deal, dude was so feeble. liam smith gave mung a way tougher fight and didnt collapse every time he was touched . cant imagine jesse vargas repeatedly hurting and stopping him.

Re: Is Jaime Munguia too green?
That wouldn't be a terrible stretch.
It's not like the 154 division is loaded with superstars and guaranteed hall of famers.
It was a good performance by the Mexican star considering his competition leading up to the Ali fight was very weak, and he's only 21.
Smith is a tough, durable guy. He showed that against the vastly more experienced and developed Canelo.
Give Munguia another year or so of seasoning and he devours everyone at super welter.
That is if Munguia can still can still make the 154 limit in another year.
Re: Is Jaime Munguia too green?
right, so now he needs some time, thats more like it

Re: Is Jaime Munguia too green?
Munguia is a world class fighter. No question about it.
But considering his young age and resume of weak opposition, of course Munguia needs further development.
Every fight is still part of the learning process for him.
I was impressed by how Munguia had so many problems early against Smith, but then adjusted by going to the body and taking control.
He punches like hell, but he's not overly strong physically.
That will come with time.
Unless he loses focus and falls victim to the temptations that come with fame and wealth, Munguia will be a monster when he's about 25.
Re: Is Jaime Munguia too green?
maybe, though youve already overshot him vs smith and were just at the start
what did you think of usyk schooling gassiev?

In the long run, Jaime would do well to replace trainer Robert Alcazar with someone else. Alcazar was De La Hoya's trainer in his early days before Oscar dumped him. Oscar gave him 2 tries but Robert just wasnt the guy for the job.SenorPipino wrote: ↑22 Jul 2018, 16:51Munguia is a world class fighter. No question about it.

Hopefully Jaime will figure that out sooner rather than later...a world-class trainer could make a huge difference later in Munguia's career down the road!!
Re: Is Jaime Munguia too green?
Mate you’re a good and respectful poster - no question. Can’t agree with you about khan. His defensive is very lacking. Munguia answered the stamina question last night - it’s good and his punch power and volume is also good. He’ll penetrate khans defense and then it will only be up to khans chin which is famous or infamous. Munguia also weighed 176 on fight night. Think that’s fairly bigger than khan could go. I would never want khan to face him, he’s too big imo. Khan has options at welterweight.KiwiRider wrote: ↑22 Jul 2018, 04:11Eggy is tough enough to give him decent rounds. Re: Is Jaime Munguia too green?
I like how no one replied to me instead just hides from me. Munguia absolutely stomped Liam Smith while putting on a show for the fans. Wasn't much to see there. Smith was competitive for 3 rounds. It's like when people were judging Hurd from the 3 or so rounds he was getting outboxed by Trout.
Uh, this forum is full of cowardly idiots.

waaaah!!! thete goes the crybaby again about how everyones ignoring him
mung didnt break smith in half like he did to ali at all, he landed clean plenty and couldnt put him away. clearly his power didnt have nearly the effect as it did on the guy kod by jesse vargas. you shouldve known ali was feeble. good win but kid is raw and very easy to hit even by liam smith. slow down bruh

Guys are talking about me without replying to me like a man. If you think that's what a man does, you haven't been raised right.jamamb wrote: ↑23 Jul 2018, 01:36 waaaah!!! thete goes the crybaby again about how everyones ignoring him![]()

Also, what part of him putting on a show for the fans don't you understand? The kid is 21 years old and was obviously showboating throughout the fight. If he fought more composed like he did against Ali, the fight would've went a lot different.
By the way, Hurd was easy to hit against Trout and Tony Harrison. I remember people writing him off because of his performance against Harrison. Munguia is a grinder like Hurd too. They're going to get hit.
By the way, Smith was competitive for 3 rounds then got bulldozed.
Re: Is Jaime Munguia too green?
how f@cking pathetic are you
getting all tough about being 'real men' on an internet forum
fact is, mung was in a fight and couldnt get his man out of there. he didnt blow away smith or break him in half like you and another fella kept going on about. knowledgeable fans knew that smith was going to fold like chinny weltweight sadam ali. ali isnt a major win at 154 at all
kids good for sure but has lots of work to do. slow the breaks. but now i see even some of the other guys who were slobbering on mung have moved to the 'with more time' stuff. thats about right

Re: Is Jaime Munguia too green?
Jamamb, if Munguia would have won impressively then you would have posted "Where would you put Munguia in history?" posts saying he was the best 154 pounder you ever saw. Idiot.jamamb wrote: ↑23 Jul 2018, 01:58 how f@cking pathetic are yougetting all tough about being 'real men' on an internet forum
