im interested in this. mung getting some pretty good hype and is a big fav. but im not sure if beating sadam ali is really worthy of quite that much. sadam ali already got beaten around and knocked out by jesse vargas. vargas hardly stops anyone , and thats at 147 and 140. is ali such a big win at 154? i really dont think jesse vargas wouldve so physically bossed smith and repeatedly hurt him like he did to ali.

im expecting mung to win, and for all the talk of size he did still choose his shots well and throw some good combos, but i wont be surprised if its not as easy as a lot think. its a good fight to get a better idea of where mungs at.

Both of the 1st 2 rounds close. You could argue for either fighter.

I'm watching on a poor stream which lags so...... :maybe:

Smiff boxed well in the 3rd. Caught Jaime with some lovely snappy punches - none of which appear to hurt the Mexican. Munguia landed a few of his own too so another close round.

Weird fight in that each fighter is taking turns to have a good 1st two minutes then the other fighters takes the last minute.

Probably give the 4th to Munguia as he started very well but Smiff did do well in the last minute.

Smiff staring to used 'the third glove' a little :OhYes:

I have it even but you could have it much wider either way.

Well my stream froze so I reboot it & it appears I missed the whole of the 5th & most of the 6th

Got the stream back just in time to see Smiff get decked

My stream was so laggy that it wasn't worth doing any more round by round. Seemed like a great bout though & Smiff does f*cking brilliant. Proper proud of the lad.

Munguia seems like a great prospect & I hope he gets involved in some big fights.

Interesting to see where Smiff goes from here. That was his best performance in my humble opinion.

that was way more of a fight for munguia then ali was . smith clearly lost but gave him a good test. reaffirms my opinion about ali being pretty feeble at 154

munguia strong and busy but very raw and not ready for the best at 154 yet. still thats a real good win for a 20/21 year old

What a scrap that was. Smith showed some massive cajones and a great chin. I expected him to fold under that kind of pressure but he toughed it out and fair play to him. He clearly lost though and he doesn`t want to be taking too many beatings like that.

I was pleased to wake to the news that Smith lost which is kinda sad. Liam is not so bad, but you get the guilt by association of being one of the Smiffs, and in particular being sibling to that absolute helmet Paul.

As expected Smith was completely outclassed and showed yet again how he is not world level.

Then again I don't think Munguia is world class either. But that's how boxing is now, you get prospect world champions.

I had Munguia winning 117-110 but what an effort from Smith, proving again he's as tough as they come, he took a bit of a pasting in there but never gave up hope and always tried to come back firing, it was a bit of a lost cause though as Munguia is an absolute beast, cant believe he's only 21 and I cant believe he can make 154, he's massive and he might not be the best defensive fighter ive seen and his footwork isn't great but his punching power, strength and shot selection are brutal, he throws a wide variety of punches and they all land with intent

Cant believe Smith not only made it to the end but only went down once in the process, lovely little left hook caught him on the temple and shook him up, Smith looked like he was hurt in every round but he's a game fvcker and landed some clean shots himself but they just bounced off Munguia, I was surprised to see Smith headhunt throughout, he's a great body puncher and seeing as the headshots werent having any effect I thought it might have been a good ploy to switch things downststairs

I doubt it would've made too much difference though Munguia is a unit, straight shots, hooks, body/head all look painful to take and I doubt there's many Super Welters who would've lasted 12 rounds taking the sort of shots Smith had to

Excellent fight, Smith incredible bravery but Munguia will take some stopping as he gets older

I think the only option for Smith now is the Kell Brook fight.

Brook v Khan IS NOT happening.

Brook is not fighting Hurd, Charlo or Munguia soon. So he may as well fight a guy known to British fans who he will be confident of beating.

Smith just got outclassed by the weakest world champion. Aside from Brook where can he go next ? Fighting overmatched opponents on BT undercards? A fight with Brook would pay him well and I doubt Warren would get in the way now. It would make no sense for Warren to keep getting fights for him.

All hail beefy, the lad showed some major balls in there: he took an almighty hammering off the Mexican marauder, who looks a major handful for anyone, swinging punches from down Tijuana way & appears to have an iron jaw to boot. Hardcore all the way.

And from now on as far as I’m concerned, Smith can smirk away all he likes; he showed he’s no bully as he kept smiling through a shell hacking, before bravely firing back all the way to the final bell.

Clearly he can’t help it, he just loves a tear up.

And he has one hell of a chin - still only ever stopped by a no good drug cheating SOB who was probably on superman levels of gear when he battered him.

Not a massive fan before, but I’ve changed my mind after that performance last night :salut:

Don't think he was "completely" outclassed , he had a few good rounds and probably gave him the first 3 and a couple of others could have gone either way .
Agree with your assessment of Munguia though , strong as an ox but very limited and takes far too many .

Great fight to watch and respect to Beefy for his part in it. I thought the first scorecard of 116-11 was about right, the other two were very harsh.

Munguia will be fun to watch that's for sure, but can see him getting stopped by the first person he fights with world level power as he's pretty basic, he just had too much power for Smith to keep at bay.

Just sat down to watch this.

Rd 1 - Good start from Smith. Busier than Munguia and landed some lovely shots. 9-10.
Rd 2 - Smith landing some eye catching shots but Munguia the more active, Smith is bigger and stronger than Ali but Munguia still looks big in comparison. 19-19.
Rd 3 - Good round. Beefy landed cleaner for me. Good jab when he commits to it. 28-29.
Rd 4 - Munguia round. Smith still landing but Munguia seems to have extra pop and maybe an extra gear. Would like to see Smith invest in the body, especially after Munguia throws those huge power shots. 38-38.
Rd 5 - Biggest Munguia round of the fight. As Barry said on comms, Smith blocks/partially blocks a lot of shots but they'll still have an effect. At the very least they drive Smith back and allow Munguia to control the ring. 48-47
Rd 6 - Smith down from a left hook above the ear. Cracking round and Smith was giving almost as good as he was getting until the Mexican's power came through. 58-55.
Rd 7 - Munguia well and truly on top now. Another round for the champion. 68-64.
Rd 8 - Smith round. Controlled first 2 minutes with his jab to head and body. Munguia probably just took it off. Rallied late but not enough to take it. 77-74.
Rd 9 - Brilliant round. Smith hurt to the body. Some effort to fight back the way he did. Landed plenty of his own but Munguia's extra power is making a difference. 87-83.
Rd 10 - Munguia round again. Couple of lovely left uppercuts towards the end. 97-92.
Rd 11 - Hell of a round. Huge effort from Smith. Actually think he landed cleaner and more often but Munguia's had more snap. I lean towards Smith. 96-92.
Rd 12 - This kid has got some engine. Takes the final round. 116-111.

Final score: 116-111 to Munguia.

One of the best losing efforts from a British fighter away from home in a long time. Smith showed an incredible amount of toughness and heart and plenty of skill as well. Showed very good shot selection to land lots of clean shots. Would have liked to have seen a bit more body work and a bit more of his jab, which is an underrated punch for him. If he had the sort of power that Munguia has then he'd be a threat to anyone in that division IMO. As it is he's probably still good enough to pick up wins over top 10 fighters, as long as the Canelo fight and last night didn't take too much out of him. Think his effort last night should dispel any notion of him being a flat track bully against over matched opponents. You don't get in with Canelo, get in with Munguia, take those sort of shots and smile back at them without being a fighter through and through.

Munguia is going to be tough to beat with that combination of size and power. Ticked the box of going 12 rounds at world level at a fast pace last night as well. Would like to see him tighten up that defence if he doesn't want to burn out too quickly. Shades of Fernando Vargas about him being in these sort of fights at this age.
