Ideal distance for 1-2 punch on standing hyperflex (jab & right)

Post by ron4972 »

Hi coaches. Can you give me some advice?

I'm hitting a stand-up hyperflex punching bag in my living room. First time I've worked out in years, and I'm just striking the left jab and straight, light right cross. I move my feet in a semi-circle in front of the bag, shifting from left-to-right, then right-to-left again. I'm just keeping my hands busy.

I'm only punching left jab and right cross. Nothing else.

It's occurred to me, that my feet and shoulders may not be the proper striking distance from the standing bag head. I may be standing too close to the bag. My question is, how far from the bag should I stand in order to get the benefit of working a proper light left jab and light right-cross? Should it be arm-length?

I stand 5'9" to 5'10", and my reach is 69 1/2". The bag is adjusted to a height of 67" inches right now. I'm taking it slow and easy.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

throw your jab just short.

the space on the end of your jab is the distance you must add onto your right hand.

and that is how you use your jab to measure your right hand.

remember dont just stand in front of your bag. move.

on the end of your fully extended jab, press down on your front foot, and, in one smooth motion, swing over your back foot.

go all the way around your bag working your jab.
