Parker / Whyte and Chisora/ Takam
Parker / Whyte and Chisora/ Takam
I am not big fan of heavyweight boxing today, but this card should be very entertaining to watch

I think Parker-Whyte will be dull.
Parker will box cautiously and at a safe distance to defuse any chance of Whyte landing a bomb.

Re: Parker / Whyte and Chisora/ Takam
Solid card among contenders, and fringe contenders. I wish we'd see more fights like this being made. Too many guys these days just pad their record until they get a title shot. Contenders vs Contenders is always nice to see.
Re: Parker / Whyte and Chisora/ Takam
The problem is Parker v Whyte has been been ppv. Ppv is not needed for this fight to be made. Instead all Hearn has done is put brook (in a mismatch)/chisora on the undercard and say who an eveny like this coudnt happen without ppv. Personally i would much rather see whyte v parker on regular sky with a next gen competitve undercard

Re: Parker / Whyte and Chisora/ Takam
Whyte v Parker is an intriguing matchup. I like both fighters but Whyte's fights are more action packed and he will definitely go for it.
This should have been a few weeks later pref August 15th so we could have had Pacquiao v Matthysse on Jul 15 (guess football isn't that big in Malaysia) this one, and then the big rematch on Sep 15.

I am big fan of HW today (and before...) and this could be a wonderfu night for all boxing fans.
Two competitive fights, Parker-Whyte 51/49 Parker, for me, and Chisora-Takam 50/50................

Solid undercard like this is something we want to see more often huh ?
Re: Parker / Whyte and Chisora/ Takam
Chisora-Takam holds both more promise and interest for me, but both fights are pretty good.
I can see both Whyte and Chisora losing, though. These are the best opponents they've had in ages.

Re: Parker / Whyte and Chisora/ Takam
I'd give Parker a slight edge and Takam a significant one. We can all agree these are competitive fights of the type we want to see, and these fighters deserve our respect and appreciation, especially Whyte and Parker for whom the other is a very high risk opponent.
To those who say "It's no big deal. Contenders should be expected to fight each other, so what"? I say "Very true but how many top heavyweights regularly do"?

Re: Parker / Whyte and Chisora/ Takam
If the bookies give me EVENS on Takam beating Chisora I will be lumping on.
It is over 4 years since Chisora beat a top 100 opponent, he has faced decent fighters in his losses but seems to have that opponent mentality now and fightened to get hurt. Takam is not the fighter either but it is more 85-15 in his favour. I think Parker - Whyte is more 65-35.
Still good fights though and well worth the watch.

I totally agree. Manys the time I look down the boxrec HW rankings and ask myself " why are these guys not fighting? "
And now 4 of them are, and I think matched fairly well.
Re: Parker / Whyte and Chisora/ Takam
Cheers Kiwi
Lennox: I'm sure you must have seen his fight with Whyte so how you can suggest Chisora is "frightened to get hurt" amazes me, although I do agree he probably has taken on something of an opponent mentality. A good poster Tanzio always used to call him "Loser to the stars" in reference to the fact he's never beaten any of the quality opponents he has faced, and while I recognize the truth of that, I do not and will not accept that he is lacking courage, even if he does lack the mental strength of a persistent winner.

Re: Parker / Whyte and Chisora/ Takam
Against Kabayel his most recent loss, he just seemed to be happy to lose, he could/should have won that fight, he just seemed to be opponent that night.
Whyte-Chisora was a good fight I agree but it's 18 months back now and as the losses tott up I think he thinks purely of money now rather the belt. A win v Takam would change that of course but I don't think he can beat Takam. I hope I am wrong. Perhaps I am judging him too harshly on his last 4 years crap resume for wins and his losses when he fights top 50 fighters and the spark IS still there.

Re: Parker / Whyte and Chisora/ Takam
Yeah his performance against Kabayel was very disappointing. Some have shouted me down for saying so, but to me it's a question of motivation. I think Chisora lacks ambition and is usually content to go through the motions - basically a lazy fighter (I don't know what he's like as a trainer).
To my eyes there was a world of difference between the "Just-pleased-to-be-here Chisora" that did little to trouble Pulev or Kabayel and the "Let-me-get-at-the-pudendum-I'm-going-to-tear-his-ferkin-head-off Chisora" that came within a whisker of beating Dillian Whyte. It's amazing what detesting someone can do to motivation levels.
There are some that won't have it though - to them Chisora is shite and therefore Whyte is shite too. I'm not saying that Whyte is an outstanding boxer but I love the guy's attitude, he'll fight anybody if the fight makes sense ... and in this case (Parker) ... even if it doesn't.

Re: Parker / Whyte and Chisora/ Takam
Motivation must always be a huge factor, whether it's money or personal animosity. Derec Chisora's a larger than life character and his focus might not always be on boxing. There's nothing wrong with that, but this is a dangerous game and careers can be short.
Regarding personal animosity affecting a boxer's style the most memorable encounter I recall was the one between Joe Bugner v Richard Dunn. Apparently the normally pacifist Bugner* had been a pundit on the Ali v Dunn fight and had received flak for suggesting Dunn shouldn't have been in the same ring as Ali.
So to prove his point he came out of retirement to flatten Dunn inside a round!
*It was suggested that Bugner's reticence might have down to the death of an opponent as far back as 1969.

Can't quite do you that good Lennox.
The books make Takam about a -160 favorite, which I think is generous.
Chisora pretty much falls short against higher profile fighters.
And Parker and Whyte appear to be pick 'em at the British books.
Outside the UK, however, Parker is about a -130 choice.
Re: Parker / Whyte and Chisora/ Takam
Yes Thomas, the opponent being Ulrich Regis. I was a big fan of Bugner and was one of the few rooting for him to beat Cooper that night. I liked Cooper but I thought that unlike Henry, Joe had the physique to give him a chance to compete against the top guys and he was young and fresh and therefore good for boxing.
Dear God he was frustrating to watch though. As a new boxing fan then I didn't know about Ulrich Regis and didn't until several years later. When I heard about what had happened it made sense. I've no idea what Joe was like prior to the Regis fight but I did wonder if that experience had scarred him, and led to his docile reluctant ring style.
How I used to yearn for a British Heavyweight who could really punch and excite. Someone who was not necessarily any better than Bugner (I wasn't greedy) but would never be guilty of putting the public to sleep. Someone like Earnie Shavers (or Shaver to give him his correct name). Then after a few years of wishing my prayers were answered and along came Frank Bruno ... built to my own personal specification![[icon_e_biggrin.gif] :D](./images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif)

Yes Frank Bruno was fantastic for British boxing. So exciting, so game, so honest, could not have trained any harder.candyslim wrote: ↑20 Jun 2018, 03:49 Yes Thomas, the opponent being Ulrich Regis. It was only later I realised that British trainers were decades behind the Americans. I suspect it was Brendan Ingle who single handedly brought coaching standards here up to the highest levels.

Re: Parker / Whyte and Chisora/ Takam
Parker v Whyte this Saturday should answer the question of how much Whyte has improved.
I got Parker to edge it but a big performance from Whyte would really turn up the heat in the heavyweights.

Re: Parker / Whyte and Chisora/ Takam
Yes it's the best heavyweight fight on the schedule, sorry AJ, sorry Sacha yours is pretty damn good too but this is one that can so easily go either way. My heart says Whyte but my head says Parker, but both have my total respect and I like them both too. Dillian is an amiable dickhead, but he's our (UK's) amiable dickhead. Parker is a gentleman and has remained so in the face of fierce provocation from the aforementioned.
I think the attitude shown by both these fighters put the likes of Wilder and also Miller (who I've been banging the drum for) to shame. Really Jarrell, Artur Szpilka seriously?

No, Szpilkas promoter said this fight will not happen, it's like 90% that Szpilka will fight Wach. But Adamek declared that hes ready to fight Millercandyslim wrote: ↑25 Jul 2018, 13:20 Yes it's the best heavyweight fight on the schedule, sorry AJ, sorry Sacha yours is pretty damn good too but this is one that can so easily go either way. To those who think Parker Whyte will be dull-
Whyte seems to be in the shape of his life- we will see for sure at the weigh in. He knows a loss to Parker is a huge step backwards.
Parker is gutted with his performance against AJ. He knows his lack of aggression lost him the fight. I expect him to over compensate with Whyte. He has been on TV over here quite a bit, and I can tell from his demeanour that he is pissed off.
