Easter’s Chin
Re: Easter’s Chin
Gah! Stop asking for Spence! STOP!! 140 is your ceiling. Spence is bigger, stronger, more athletic. Just stop. Dont do it.
Re: Easter’s Chin
Mikey Garcia needs to be more ruthless, he's a good all round fighter no question about it but how he let Easter off with so few body shots doesn't look good.
Re: Easter’s Chin
One more thing before closing, I know of very few A list Mexicans which Mikey is that come to a fight without a decent body attack.
It's almost a staple of the Mexican style and always has been.
Had Garcia done that he would have stopped Easter.
You knew Easter would have used his height and reach to avoid Garcia for 3-4-5 rounds coming into the fight.

Re: Easter’s Chin
I would bet my life savings on Spence against Mikey. And Mikey is great but there are levels to this. Spence is a beast. Garcia doesnt have the physicality or athleticism to beat Spence. It's just too stupid. He's too small. This guy was at 126. This is dumb.
Re: Easter’s Chin
At this point I'd tend to agree but Garcia has a good team who seem open to constructive criticism and would likely plug some holes.
Nevertheless there is a question mark on Garcia's power due to the amount of right hands through the guard that piled up points but did very little serious damage.
Re: Easter’s Chin
Garcia-Loma is the fight to make.
Crawford-Spence is the fight to make.
Not this other crap.

Re: Easter’s Chin
What question mark? Easter was on his bike throughout the fight not wanting to get stopped. Mikey wobbled him everytime he threw with any authority.Evander wrote: ↑29 Jul 2018, 00:55At this point I'd tend to agree but Garcia has a good team who seem open to constructive criticism and would likely plug some holes.

Lomachenko, Gervante, Berchalt, Linares??? vs Mikey Garcia??? All they’re talking about is Errol Spence

I had it 118-109 Garcia.
Seemed disinterested at times. Never really felt threatened.
Don't get me wrong Garcia won clean but at the top level there are higher expectations because there are boxers who can take advantage of these weaknesses.
I agree with you to a degree, but I don't think Mikey showed all his dimensions in this fight. He didn't have to fight a cerebral type fight where multiple game plans had to come into play. Once he got his range and timing down, Easter made no adjustments so Mikey just stuck to what was working.
If I was Mikey, I'd be happy with the results. He might not be happy with some of the things he did when he goes back and looks at the tape, but we know Mikey is capable of fighting a much more disciplined fight and has a lot more dimensions in his game than what we saw tonight. Mikey just didn't need them with the opponent he had in front of him.
You also have to give credit to Easter and his style. He's a long rangy guy and he forced Mikey to go out of his comfort zone and be the aggressor rather than a counter puncher. In a lot of ways Easter forced a dimension out of Garcia that we aren't really used to seeing and he still managed to win comfortably.
I don't disagree thought. Garcia looked a bit bored in there and one dimensional at times, even when he was being one dimensional he was well in control of the fight and winning most rounds relatively easily.
Re: Easter’s Chin
Yeah Easter was on his bike that's true but Garcia had managed to assert himself and figured out how to launch and score many of his head shots.Mexi-Box wrote: ↑29 Jul 2018, 00:57What question mark? My two points are why were the head shots not so effective and why when it was clear that these shots were not effective by themselves did he not back it up with a body attack.
Had he done that he'd have taken out Easter inside the distance.
Re: Easter’s Chin
Eh, he won a lopsided decision. Mikey is too methodical to really force a KO, but his power is for real. Easter's legs were wobbling anytime Mikey threw a serious punch. Easter was just happy to survive. If he tried to fight like he did in the 9th, I think it was, he would've gotten stopped.Evander wrote: ↑29 Jul 2018, 01:03Yeah Easter was on his bike that's true but Garcia had managed to assert himself and figured out how to launch and score many of his head shots.Mexi-Box wrote: ↑29 Jul 2018, 00:57What question mark? Mikey has issues when his opponent doesn't want to engage. He had the same issue against Burgos. Tall-rangy guys that come to survive will make most every fighter look bad.
Remember, Mikey is more of an elite counterpuncher than a pressure fighter. Mikey can stalk with authority, but it isn't in his nature to pursue fighters.

No doubt he was winning the rounds I had him up 11-1 so there was no question numbers wise he was dominant.NateJR wrote: ↑29 Jul 2018, 00:59Evander wrote: ↑29 Jul 2018, 00:44It maybe nice now but if I were a potential opponent there's plenty of things to take advantage of.SenorPipino wrote: ↑29 Jul 2018, 00:38 Isn't it great to be predictable....and still win in lopsided fashion?

I don't know I look for all flaws and how others can take advantage of them, considering we know Mikey Garcia will be in much bigger fights down the road there is cause for concern.
Perhaps a bit premature on my part but I'm looking down the road and what may lay in store for him.
Re: Easter’s Chin
I honestly think the only one that is a stylistic nightmare for Garcia is Crawford. I actually think that's his poison where I think he has a chance against Spence Jr., honestly.Evander wrote: ↑29 Jul 2018, 01:07No doubt he was winning the rounds I had him up 11-1 so there was no question numbers wise he was dominant.NateJR wrote: ↑29 Jul 2018, 00:59

Re: Easter’s Chin
I agree to a certain extent, but honestly when you box that type of tall rangy fighter I would have thought it was standard operating procedure to let him feel it to the body when the opportunity presents itself.Mexi-Box wrote: ↑29 Jul 2018, 01:07Eh, he won a lopsided decision. When Mikey caught him with that body shot in the last 3-4 rounds I thought it would be curtains for Easter, but Garcia never backed it up and lost momentum.

Spence will be a handful for anyone he's a very smart fighter with so many weapons.Mexi-Box wrote: ↑29 Jul 2018, 01:11I honestly think the only one that is a stylistic nightmare for Garcia is Crawford. Crawford technically is sound but if someone has the cycles up to speed and patient he can be got to but it won't be easy.
Great time to be a boxing fan and these are nice problems to try and solve

Re: Easter’s Chin
why isnt garcia more vocal to callout loma, hed beat him no doubt and thatd be a major win, spence is just a mismatch and it wouldnt even be that much of a win for spence with mikey having done nothing at 147 and being way smaller
mikey kinda makes some strange callouts, spence now and cotto in the past

That's true about future opponents, but so many fighters have a habit of fighting up or down based on what's in front of them at the moment.Evander wrote: ↑29 Jul 2018, 00:44It maybe nice now but if I were a potential opponent there's plenty of things to take advantage of.SenorPipino wrote: ↑29 Jul 2018, 00:38 Isn't it great to be predictable....and still win in lopsided fashion?

I have a hunch that Garcia would up his game considerably if he found himself in there with Lomachenko or Pacquiao.
He wouldn't fight just 90 seconds per round. By the 5th round last night, Garcia had the bout in hand and just did whatever was necessary to take rounds. Nothing more.
Almost in a sparring session mindset because he felt Easter had nothing to truly offer.
Against someone of a higher caliber who posed a real threat, Mikey would get down to business and wouldn't simply go through the motions.
Re: Easter’s Chin
Easter didn't pose much of a threat and pretty much knew it. The dude just ran all night and wanted to survive. You can't do much against a top-level guy that just comes to survive.
Spence Jr. would give Mikey a lot more openings as he doesn't just run around the ring trying to survive. I'd like to see it, honestly. Guys daring to be great is always fun to see.

Re: Easter’s Chin
Garcia's body shots in rounds 7 or 8 completely shut Easter down ... he was never the same after that ... barely threw a punch ...

Re: Easter’s Chin
Easter can't take big punch nor good punch,he's easily shaken up by fighters with heavy hands, knew it wouldn't been long before he got defeated.
