kov vs alvarez
kov vs alvarez
next week
so many ppl go on like kov is finished or horrifically scarred, if he is alvarez has a great shot, hes a legit contender
the winner will easily have one of the best wins in the division of late, but question remains how they stack up with guys like bivol, gvodzyk, stevenson , etc.

Re: kov vs alvarez
Kovalev became underrated after Ward losses, while both of them were controversial.
Kovalev is still there, I believe, he'll knock Alvarez out late.
Btw, Bivol is obviously also favored in this event. In their next fight Kovalev and Bivol must face each other to unify the belts.

Re: kov vs alvarez
Kovalev has lost a step or two. It could be age and or losing to Andre Ward took some wind out of him. The real Krusher would've knocked out Mikhalkin inside 4 rounds. Instead the fight got to the 7th and was stopped on cuts. Kovalev didn't even get a knockdown. It's clear that is he not as relentless and aggressive as he used to be. Alvarez is a live dog. There's a reason Adonis Stevenson ducked him for 2 years. Alvarez has no glaring weaknesses. He has a three inch reach advantage over Kovalev and good jab that will be a key in this fight.
Re: kov vs alvarez
Odds on this are way too wide. -500? Way way too wide. Should be half that. Alvarez has a legit chance in this.
Re: kov vs alvarez
ya agree...very live underdog
funny how lttle ppl seem to care about ths really good fght. totally changed tune on kovalev...used to get way more attenton even vs guys such as agnew. fans after a new guy now.
probably the same fans who wll go on about ppl caring too much about losses...but you better not even lose to the p4p #1!

Re: kov vs alvarez
You guys think Bivol would beat Kovalev if they fight this weekend? Or does Bivol need to be more seasoned?
Re: kov vs alvarez
Kovalev gets hit way more often than he used to. This fight will tell us ALOT about him because Eleider is a damn good fighter. I do think Bivol beats Kov but it would best serve Kov to fight him now as opposed to 2 years from when the back end of his prime is gone. He needs to fight him next.
Re: kov vs alvarez
Why is no one discussing this fight??
Re: kov vs alvarez
because kov lost ultra competitively ( as betting underdog) to a great sure thing hof fighter, so now no one cares it seems
but 'omg losssess dont matter, fighters need to challenge themselves, best fight the best etc, screw the abcs and just give us good fights, we have big respect for fighters who step up to face the best and want more of it'
ya, um, sure guys. more like fans such as that are exactly why so many fighters dont take those excellent fights we supposedly want
this is one of the best lhw fights in a while , and pretty much nothing, but i am very excited for it

Re: kov vs alvarez
I’m not discussing it because I’m on a post allowance lmao. This is a great fight. Favour Kovalev but he could walk into a hard shot. He’s looked a little off balance lately. If Alvarez is able to get a lock on the distance and isn’t too slow of foot we will have a fight.
Will be good watching Bivol again too. Pretty confident he’ll stop Chilemba.

I am not discussing it because there are so many biased nut cases here especially when you bring up Kovlaev you get a bunch of annoying dishonest negativity that I am just going to kick back and enjoy the fight.

Re: kov vs alvarez
A lot of casual sports combat observers, as well as many of the hardcore boxing fraternity, aren’t interested in Sergey Kovalev's bout against Eleider Alvarez, for a few reasons…
• The ‘Krusher’ lost a lot of momentum with his popularity during the last 3½ years of his career, since his victory over Bernard Hopkins, due to his lacklustre effort against, Isaac Chilemba, his two defeats against Andre Ward and then he lost a certain amount of credibility when he engaged in mismatches against the absolutely dire Vyacheslav Shabranskyy and Igor Mikhalkin.
• You could also question Nadjib Mohammedi’s world title challenger credentials and also the justification for the Russian to engage in a rematch against Jean Pascal.
In terms of the above issues (barring the Andre Ward defeats), I personally blame Kathy Duva’s Main Events for arranging those bouts and HBO’s decision to sanction them.
I was disgusted about the way that Duva tried to rebuild the tamed “beast” via the use of sacrificial lambs like Shabranskyy and Mikhalkin. Those mismatches must have permanently damaged his ability to attract a viewing audience.
Sergey Kovalev, by his own admission, had several bad habits, such as heavy drinking and showing up to camps in less-than-ideal shape. He also pretty much trained himself, yet blamed John David Jackson for his poor performances. Simply put: the Krusher was capable of delivering much better performances, but his lack of discipline hindered him.
I also believe that the ‘Krusher’ didn’t exactly cover himself in glory with his racist antics, which he kept repeating over-and-over again, coupled with the manner in which he was crying to the world about how much he was victimised after suffering two defeats against Andre Ward, as well as b¡tching and moaning about American “corruption”.
My criticism may sound harsh, but a fighter possessing the pugilistic talents of Sergey Kovalev would usually be idolised in the western world, but he has tarnished his own image (maybe due to refusing to listen to any advice relating to how a champion should conducting himself) and Main Events and HBO have also failed to promote him effectively.
In terms of Krusher’s next opponent, Eleider Alvarez, he willingly agreed to step-aside twice to allow other fighters to face Adonis Stevenson and the Colombian hasn’t really done as much as he should have done to progress his own career.
So I’m guessing that many people have lost interest in Sergey Kovalev, whilst pretty much everyone didn’t pay any attention to Eleider Alvarez in the first place, coupled with HBO’s and Main Events lack of effort to “sell” this bout to fight fans, hence the reason why very few people are talking about this fight.
I’m probably going to receive quite a lot of insults and abuse from Sergey’s die-hard fans for this post, but I am frustrated about how Kovalev’s career has progressed, rather than possessing any genuine “hatred” for the man

Re: kov vs alvarez
I won't go at this move, cause such fights can be needed much after losses. Just to establish back the confidence. You can't try another big challenge after you lose twice in a row.Enlightened-One wrote: ↑03 Aug 2018, 04:07 I was disgusted about the way that Duva tried to rebuild the tamed “beast” via the use of sacrificial lambs like Shabranskyy and Mikhalkin. Re: kov vs alvarez
This is must win fight for both fighters. Looking forward to this one. As for Ward fights, i have no problem with first one, which was close and could go either way. But second one was showing of foul play by Ward and irresponsible referee.
. Chering for Kovalev a bit against Alvarez, but Eleider is beast. this is going to be good fight

Re: kov vs alvarez
People were saying the same after he fought Chilemba before he fought Ward. Kovalev looked a lot worse.hulkmaniac wrote: ↑30 Jul 2018, 15:07 Kovalev has lost a step or two. Kovalev runs hot and cold against some of these bottom top 10 fighters.
Alvarez is solid, but he's on the same level as Chilemba.

Question to the forum. Does anyone read this guy's awful posts? It's like I'm reading the wailing of a 12 year old.Enlightened-One wrote: ↑03 Aug 2018, 04:07 A lot of casual sports combat observers, as well as many of the hardcore boxing fraternity, aren’t interested in Sergey Kovalev's bout against Eleider Alvarez, for a few reasons…

Re: kov vs alvarez
I’m backing Kovalev to have a triumphant return to form in this fight
Re: kov vs alvarez
personally i dont think his comeback opponents have been really such a big deal. pretty standard to come back from losses with soft stuff for a fight or two, and here he is now fighting a guy whose been a top contender for a few years. if he beats alvarez it will easily be among the best wins in the division for the last few years. same goes for if alvarez wins. its a fairly big fight for the division
fighting soft opponents can slow down interest, but it was only two and i wouldve expected a lot more interest for this fight. i personally think the biggest kov dropoff has been from east euro fanboys who, since he lost to ward, are embarrassed and abandon him for a new hope, like bivol. not much interest in bivols fight either, but tbh thats perfectly understandable since hes fighting a guy who is not interesting at all

Re: kov vs alvarez
You have some agenda against EE fighters or something? Kovalev fans aren't jumping on Bivol. No casual Kovalev fan knows who the hell he is. Bivol has been in the hardcore's eye for a long time. He's been looking amazing every fight.jamamb wrote: ↑03 Aug 2018, 14:34 personally i dont think his comeback opponents have been really such a big deal. pretty standard to come back from losses with soft stuff for a fight or two, and here he is now fighting a guy whose been a top contender for a few years. if he beats alvarez it will easily be among the best wins in the division for the last few years. same goes for if alvarez wins. its a fairly big fight for the division

When Bivol first started, I said the guy will become a top dude at LHW. He's an amazing talent. It has nothing to do with Kovalev you psychopath.
I don't think Kovalev really lost any viewership. The Mikhalkin fight was more bad timing while he did good numbers against Shabranksyy. By the way, only a complete moron would be embarrassed at the fighter for losing a very controversial low-blow galore to Son of Scrot.

Whether you'll admit it or not, the viewership figures for Krusher's fight against Alvarez will inevitably be unimpressive.
Re: kov vs alvarez
Kovalev/Mikhalkin wasn't unimpressive considering it went head-to-head against Wilder/Ortiz. I think it was Wilder/Ortiz. Totally forgot if that is right, and I don't want to go look it up on BoxRec at the moment.Enlightened-One wrote: ↑04 Aug 2018, 03:36If Kovalev hasn't lost momentum with both his career and also the fight fans, how come almost no one from this forum or from the media is talking about tonight's bout?Mexi-Box wrote: ↑04 Aug 2018, 00:13I don't think Kovalev really lost any viewership. I know you don't like impartial facts, but he did ~600K whereas people were saying he'd do less than 500K.
HBO has been garbage at hyping fights. They're barely even supporting boxing at the moment. As I said, I know you absolutely HATE impartial facts, but just try to get your brain around it and stop with your damn agenda.
