Dillian Whyte vs. Manuel Charr (WBA regular world title fight in December)

Post by Enlightened-One »

"Dillian Whyte reveals surprise target for December fight – AJ, Chisora on ice"

DILLIAN WHYTE has his sights set on a tick-over fight in December before targeting a lucrative rematch with Anthony Joshua in April 2019 – but Dereck Chisora will have to wait.

“The fight I’d like in December is Manuel Charr, he’s WBA regular world champion and it’s about time I got a shot at a world title.

“I believe Manuel Charr is a good fight, a strong fight, and a better fight than me vs Dereck Chisora and it’s about time.

“Chisora fought for a world title, Parker fought for a world title, Lucas Browne fought for a world title. Everyone’s fought for one apart from me.

“It’s my time to fight for a world title, I believe I deserve one.”

Thoughts?

I think it's a good option for him although I see the WBA regular title as more like confirming who's mandatory in that body rather than a genuine world title. Would be a good stepping stone though for him just now and a win would put him in a good position to fight for the proper titles early next year.

I also like the fact that in general he seems to be willing to fight anyone. He's growing on me.

Did I miss something?

Isn't Charr due to fight Oquendo this fall?

I know that fight has been on hold for about 4 years and may never really happen, but is Charr allowed to look at anyone else before he hooks up with Fres?

Both Chisora and Whyte have mentioned Charr as a potential future opponent within the last couple of days and Oquendo may be willing to accept a step-aside fee.

Charr is a B-/B level, for me, he doesn't deserve to be at the top 20 HWs.
So, I don't like this potential fight.

But didn't Oquendo go to court for the opportunity to fight Charr?

Hasn't he been dreaming of this fight for years?

And now you think he'll take step aside money?

And Charr might even be beatable for an ancient Oquendo. He would probably take a pounding from Whyte if he became the new champion.

I don't see Oquendo stepping away unless he was offered huge money. And a Chisora-Charr or Whyte-Charr fight simply isn't going to bring in any big bucks. Or quid.

if you're oquendo you'd probably be happy to keep getting step aside money under the circumstances

After Whyte's win over Parker, he's almost done enough to deserve a belt. In his past two fights, he beat a guy who was a titlist in 2016 (before being stripped), and he beat a guy who had a belt as recently as 2018. If he beat Charr on top of that, a current titlist, then that's a trifecta; so give that man a belt.

This fight would also transfer the WBA belt from a totally undeserving dude to a pretty deserving dude, so that's a pretty legit upgrade. The WBA belt will forever belong to a horrid champion if they don't book Charr against someone respectable.

Probably a reasonable way forward for Whyte to seek the WBA regular title.

Charr-Oquendo is due September 29th. So Charr would have to win fairly easily to be prepared to go again by years end.

If Wilder faces Fury or someone else, but not Whyte, it's a good option for Dillian. That's a huge step back in opposition level, but Whyte probably needs such kind of fight after a war against Parker.

WBA regular makes you the world champ of journymen. but fornicate it, its a low risk fight, for a belt, while he waits for april 13th. fair play.

Actually I read this morning that Whyte acknowledges that Charr and Oquendo will fight in September.

He just wants the winner. So Oquendo won't be doing any stepping aside.

Whyte would splatter Charr. He’d knock him out before the 6th imo

Would be happy to see Whyte walk through the winner of Charr v Oquendo.

Then April 2019 Joshua V Whyte at Wembley can destroy that silly regular belt and we can hope to never see it again... :bag:

Nobody "walks through" or "crushes" charr, if anything, he's strong & can take a punch, which he would have to, whyte would clearly outwork him & beat him up. Maybe late stoppage rd. 8 to 12🤔or maybe bodysnatcher really walks through him and blasts him out early, but most probably not. 😉

Joshua is fighting Povetkin. Wilder might be fighting Fury. If that's the case then this fight makes a lot of sense for Whyte. If he wins and picks up the minor WBA title then he's well positioned to fight one of those 4 depending on how those fights turn out.

Does the name "Mairis Briedis" ring any bells with you?

charr got knocked the f out against breidis, i know. he fell really bad on his noggin, also he walked, rushed right into that shot in an attempt to "walk through" breidis, breidis on the back foot beating up charr plodding forward the whole fight-know wha ti mean? but yes, fair play, i get your point.
