I actually think he makes good points. Pro boxing is screwed up. Nobody knows who the champs are anymore because there are so many ABC's. The problem is AIBA has it's own problems but Virgets is new there in the position of Secretary General and has a good background in boxing and administration. Besides coaching Tommy Morrision in the pros, he is a past President of USA Boxing. He has his pulse on both pro and am boxing.
Why not have all of boxing under one umbrella like FIFA for football? AIBA's last President CK Wu tried to do too much with AIBA trying to run pro boxing in all manners but as Virgets says, they should just govern. It might work. It will be a tough row to hoe as the ABC's are all about making money on sanctions so AIBA won't have much luck getting them to the table to talk unless there is money in it for them. Money is what has fcuked pro boxing and will continue to fcuk it.
On the other side, AIBA has to clean up their act in the eyes of the IOC but guess what? The IOC is another corrupt organization. Is there any honest organizations / groups out there anymore? I don't know.

95% of the people who sit on the top tables at AIBA were there when allegations of financial mismanagement were made, when allegations of corrupt officials at Rio were made, were there when the IOC suspended payments.
Re-juggling positions and re-writing plans and projections doesn't make people more capable.
Amateur Boxing stands apart from pro boxing for the very reasons you state JMac. Boxing ain't football.
PS: Where were the Executive Committee and all the others when it transpired that AIBA had no effective anti doping schedules?

I hear you and agree. Boxing is political like everything else in this world. So many people in those top positions are there because of who they know. I had been asked to get involved with higher levels of AIBA but didn't want to because of many of the people involved with them. I couldn't stand them when I was a R/J and was always happy to come to an end of a tournament so I could leave. I sure as f*ck didn't want to hang out with them in a different position and pretend I liked them. Now there were some great people who were R/J's who I considered good friends and there were some a-holes. It was the administrators I didn't care for.
What I like is the concept of pro boxing being under one umbrella like amateur boxing is under AIBA. It could be one pro umbrella like it was back in the day when everybody in the world knew who the heavyweight, lt hvy, middleweight champs were. But it will never happen. Too much greed now.
As for AIBA....like so many other governing bodies....cleaning up is needed.

Pro Boxing is a business first, second and third. TV rights dominate the purses and promotors and managers dominate the boxers.
We have white collar and charity boxing forging a path outside of the amateur code because $$$$$ are involved.
Boxing has lost the ability to entertain Joe Public without name fighters, backbiting and drama.
I admire your values JMac but simply can't see a one title world champ ever happening or working.
