Thanks. Haye was a legitimate WBA champion at the time though as others have also statedTuan_Jim wrote: ↑03 Aug 2018, 14:26The WBA introduced regular and super champions in 2001.
When Hopkins unified the WBC, WBA and IBF titles in September 2001 he became the first undisputed middleweight champion since Hagler. It was a cause for celebration. At last, boxing's other glamour division was cleaned up!
By November 2001 William Joppy was boxing Howard Eastman for their new 'regular' title, and by the end of the fight we had two WBA middleweight champs. I remember Iain Darke sounded vaguely embarrassed trying to explain the situation.

Re: David Haye - WBA Regular
This is the only sensible answer to all the nonsense.DrDuke wrote: ↑03 Aug 2018, 10:30 I am actually not happy with those "Silver" nonsense by WBC, "International" and regional stuff by WBO and IBF, and etc, etc, etc. Maybe WBA is the worst out of them all, but still all sanctioning bodies make too many versions. It's World championship, damn it. You either a champion of the World or not.
Its bad enough that we have four organisations in the first place (don't get me started on the IBO) but when these org's then splinter their own belts internally it is beyond farce. They think they're being clever but thats what most simpletons think, the penny has yet to drop with these dimwits. They are actually alienating their most sought after fans, the much maligned casuals, because only boxing aficionado's have a clue about who the real champions are nowadays. There is a young lad I work with absolutely convinced that Callum Smith has been a world champ for a while now ffs and it makes the sport a real laughing stock
Re: David Haye - WBA Regular
Silver champion, super champion, its all bullsh*t isn't it
Re: David Haye - WBA Regular
He won the wba "super" belt as he only had the IBF and WBO,also the IBO if people want to get pedanticfunso banjo baby wrote: ↑03 Aug 2018, 15:13 Klit was the undisputed champ. he won nothing more beating haye.

Chag was stripped because he failed a drug test--Valuev baulked at fighting him but Klit felt he was sufficiently immunised not to catch whatever it was Chagaev had. So Haye won WBA 'proper'.
