Simple Explanation as to why Dillian Whyte is not WBC Mandatory

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

The WBC's mandatory situation will be placed on hold whilst Wilder and Fury lock horns this year, with Dominic Breazeale forced to wait his turn after earning his shot with a victory over Eric Molina.

Dillian Whyte, who currently holds the WBC Silver belt, is number one in the rankings, but as Sulaiman pointed out, was overlooked by the WBC for a future Wilder shot due to his failure to accept an eliminator fight with Luis Ortiz.

"The mandatory challenger is Dominic Breazeale," the WBC figurehead stated. "Last year he was contracted to fight a final elimination bout versus Bermane Stiverne.

"When Luis Ortiz could not fight Deontay Wilder, Bermane Stiverne got the fight and Breazeale was left with a contract. The replacement for Breazeale was Eric Molina.

"The condition was that if Breazeale won he would become mandatory as per the contract he had.

"Dillian Whyte is the WBC silver champion, but is not mandatory. The WBC offered him to fight a final elimination bout to enforce a second mandatory on the division against Luis Ortiz, but Whyte did not wish to fight such,"
said Sulaiman.
I just watched @DillianWhyte vs joseph parker .What a great heavyweight fight . Dramatic . Very proud of both fighting for @WBCBoxing silver

Why bring Ortiz into it, if Brazeale is the number #2, and they want a true mandatory, he should fight Whyte. Even though Whyte has defended his silver belt 3 times against better guys that Brazeale has beaten.

Fighting Luis Ortiz just to be a second mandatory does seem a bit mad to be fair. Especially with the way the WBC can take an age to actually enforce them (see Adonis Stevenson's title run). While it may have been a final eliminator on paper, in reality it'd probably still leave Whyte the best part of 18 months away from the Wilder fight.

I think Whyte turned down the Ortiz fight because he expected Hearn to secure him a voluntary vs Wilder.

In hindsight it may not seem the best move, but I can understand why he made the decision at the time.

The WBC are a bit of a joke regarding mandatories and eliminators.

Didn't Wilder secure his mandatory position via a win over Malik Scott who was ranked well outside the top 10 at the time?

I love the ABC boys. They all have a Clause that basically says: 'We can just ignore all our other clauses and do what we like'. The Catholic Chruch should have that one added to their marriage vows.
