Trevor Bryan v BJ Flores Anounced... for Interim WBA title

Post by joshj909 »

The fight that everyone wanted (lol) Trevor Bryan v BJ Flores has been anounced for 11th August in Phoenix (Flores hometown).

Trevor Bryan 19-0 12 KOs vs nobodies, WBA #5
vs
BJ Flores 34-3-1 21 KOs vs Cruiserweights, WBA #6

Only good thing about this is that it will knock one of them down the WBA rankings

Who wins?

I saw Bryan vs Castillo, Bryan didn't look promising there. He could have been twice more active since then, but with King it's not possible. So I don't know, how far he improved since then. Anyway Flores is probably a one to be handled. I guess, Ryan will take the decision or score a late TKO.

both have extremely dodgy world rankings with the corrupt alphabets.

Bryan looks pretty rubbish altho he should beat Flores.

Both these guys aren't too good. Madison would have beaten both of them. This division is going off a cliff if this is an eliminator. Winner faces who, Charr/Fres winner? Just a complete waste of time....

I'm always supportive of even matchmaking. This is a relatively close match-up, but Bryan seems to be the favorite. Bryan's only good experience has been against Derrick Rossy, so this fight gives him some more. Flores hasn't lost at heavyweight yet, and it's always been his destiny to put at least one heavyweight opponent over; otherwise he might as well have retired 2 years ago. I've always thought someone managing a prospect / gatekeeper should get their guy a win over BJ Flores.

Title Eliminator BS aside, this isn't a horrible matchup.

What is going on with Charr/Oquendo? What is this litigation issue? It's in the courts again. Is someone blocking the fight?

I cannot find a trace of any explanation of that except that Don King said it. I can only guess that it's one of two things: Something to do with Oquendo's previous litigation against the WBA for them owing him a title shot, or, the fact that he won the previous purse bid but his team didn't have the money to back it up and therefore Charr's bid won by default. Either way, it looks like Oquendo has his lawyers on speed dial when things don't go his way.

I would care so much less if this belt was fought for by people at least slightly worthy of competing for a title.

Charr Oquendo is scheduled september 29 and seems likely that winner of Miller Adamek fight will be mandatory for Charr/Oquendo

During January 2016, the WBA had sixteen sixteen interim titleholders, in comparison to March of this year, when there were only two. This silly belt was almost extinct.

However, it now appears that the WBA have performed a u-turn by reintroducing the use of the utterly rancid interim title, which is pretty annoying.

Why does the Interim Title mean any more than the Regular or Super WBA Heavyweight Title? Just say f*ck the WBA altogether.

They're dog sh*t top to bottom.

A new article on Fight News disputes the previous article about Don King’s comments about the WBA “regular” heavyweight title. Charr vs. Oquendo is still on for that belt. The WBA is legally obliged to give Oquendo this title shot, so I can’t see this being cancelled or the boxers changing.

Two years ago Bryan and Miller were stablemates and fellow prospects equal in standing. Miller has progressed to the top ten whereas Bryan has stood still.

I'm taking Bryan to win. Why - nobody knows if he can fight?

Let 's just say we do know how good Blow Job Flores is so my thinking is like that card game where you bet on the next card to get revealed ... "Higher than a three".

I did not thing Bryan was anything special he beat me but hell who hasn’t lol ok boxer but no power with that being said he will probably beat BJ who is very picky about who he fights as I have offered to fight him in the past and they always wouldn’t do it we’re from same state and fought on same card but he doesn’t like that I play when I fight so he wouldn’t do it but I think it’s a good fight for both B level fighters

It will most likely be Charr early next year. Amazingly, that's a big step up for the new interim champ

I guess the WBA has no intention of reducing the amount of titles. Why did this fight happen when there will be Oquendo vs. Charr for the "regular" title in a month?

As long as boxers are willing to pay the sanctioning fee for these belts there is no reason for the WBA to eliminate them.
The boxers keep these belts in existence not the sanctioning body.

My theory is that: Don King may have been willing to pay (in sanctioning fees) if there was a guarantee that Bryan fights the winner of Charr/Oquendo for the full title after. Charr/Oquendo would probably have preferred a defence against Miller as the purse would've been higher. I guess King knows the game better and suggested the idea before Hearn had a chance to get involved. It looks like a legal way of buying title-shots really.
