Post by zebgonzo »

Hi! I need help finding a webpage I often visited back one year. It was a list where someone (I dont rem his name) had ranked all HW boxers every year from the 1870's onward (about 50-200 boxers every year). Can anyone help me?

Yeah it's a great site. I've got it bookmarked on my personal PC at home. I'll post it later today if someone doesn't beat me too it.

I don't know if this is the page you are thinking about, but it is one of the best pages on heavyweight boxing on the net.

Mike Paul and his son did a wonderful job on the site and Mike was a wonderful person...unfortunately Mike passed away a few months ago, but he is well remembered by those of us who had the opportunity to know him.

Yeah that's the site I have bookmarked. An incredible effort and great resource.

That website is interesting. It certainly had to be very time consuming to put together.

However, there is one huge flaw. That is factoring in fights between two lightheavy weights and counting it as a heavyweight fight.

For example Archie Moore's fights when he was a lightheavyweight fighting another lightheavyweight is factored in the heavyweight ratings.
Same Gene Tunney and apparently just any other lightheavyweight who ever fought as a heavyweight. This shouldn't be done.
If you are rating heavyweights, a fight that a fighter had when both he and his opponent weren't heavyweights shouldn't count at all.

The Boxrec All time rankings apparently count these fights as well and it screws things up. You have results like Jimmy Bivins being the # 1 heavyweight of all time, and countless other ridiculaus results.

It's really too bad since so much time and research is put into bothy of these rating systems.
Obviously there is no way to have a perfect rating system. However, there seems to be an obvious way to greatly improve it.

Nevertheless, the site was interesting to look at.
