Jerwin Ancajas vs. Alejandro Santiago Barrios - September 28, 2018 on ESPN+

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

Not against Kal Yafai..

IBF super flyweight champion Jerwin Ancajas (30-1-1, 20 KOs) will be back inside the ring on September 29 to defend his title on a Top Rank Boxing card on ESPN+ in California, according to Dan Rafael.

The opponent and the venue still are in the planning stages, but #10 WBO Alejandro Santiago Barrios (16-2-4, 7 KOs) is being mentioned as the potential opponent.

Terrible, but I said this would happen when he sighed with top rank. A string of poor defences.

I was hopeful of the Yafai fight after they fought in the same card.

Yafai will also do what I expected and defend his belt against another unknown on the Joshua v Povetkin card. I'm sure Hearn will promise a big fight for him next......again.

What was poor about Sultan? The guy had one of the best victories in the division.

No issue with Sultan, he was the mandatory afterall and on a decent run... But Rodriguez, Kinoshita (a mandatory but an awful one), Conlan and Gonazalez aren't exactly great given the depth of the division and the fact he's turned Inoue down a number of times.

Yafai hasn't been much better, Ishida being his only credible defense

Fair enough with that, it wasn't a good fight but he was a mandatory and considered top 10.

It really takes the piss that him and Yafai were in the same card and don't fight.

Like a lesser version of Stevenson and Kovalev all those years ago.

I can understand Ancajas taking the Conlan fight because he would have been paid really good money and it was a really easy fight for him.

Yafai in the other hand hasn't had that which is why I am heavily critical of him turning down Inoue last year.

Ancajas pretty clearly trailing thru 6 rounds, probably 4-2, which of course means he's up 4-2 on the Top Rank cards.

116-112 Santiago.

He will of course be lucky to escape with a draw.
