EU fights: Kabayel v Wallin & Teper v Helenius

Post by joshj909 »

As already known to the European boxing fans and reported by Fightnews.com, the vacant European Union (EU) heavyweight title will be disputed by two former European champions, Finland’s Robert Helenius (26-2, 16 KOs) and German-naturalized Erkan Teper (19-2, 12 KOs), with the related purse bid already set for September 4th. Otto Wallin, the former EU champion, has meanwhile accepted two weeks ago to become the new mandatory challenger for unbeaten European king Agit Kabayel, who however is before scheduled to defend his major belt in a voluntary defense on October 27 in Germany, a night which is poised to be a solid triple-header drawn out by SES Boxing.

Two has-beens that will never make it to the top and two unbeaten prospects facing off. Thoughts on these fights? I'm thinking Kabayel and Teper to get the wins but i honestly haven't seen enough of Wallin to be very confident in choosing against him.

The winners of these will likely have decent rankings in the org's top 15s:
  • Kabayel - WBC#7, IBF#5, WBO#9
  • Wallin - WBA#9, IBF#6, WBO#11
  • Teper - IBF#7
  • Helenius - WBC#25

What happened to the German HW Tom Schwarz, still no opponent on 15 Sep?! Maybe a bomb, no improvement! :maybe:

I'm pleased with these match-ups, although I'd prefer that they be rearranged a bit, e.g. Kabayel vs Teper and Wallin vs Helenius. As it is, you have two undefeated guys with some potential (winner would be kind of on fire) and two retreads (winner would be the greater retread). At least if they juggled it around, there exists the potential for both undefeated guys to win.

No I like them just the way they are. I was expecting Wallin to be Kabayel's challenger since he squeezed past Granat for the Swedish title. He's a tidy boxer but doesn't appear to have much power to speak of. They are both undefeated so this will affect the top 20 maybe top 15.

Helenius and Teper are both looking for some kind of way back. I don't take the EU title very seriously, the EBU are the genuine European authority, but it's a fight which could go either way between two well known, well established European heavyweights, which will do me very nicely. :TU:

Teper in a good situation here.... Helenius looked terrible last week. Any durable fighter who brings quantity will win.

Kabayel vs Wallin winner will land somewhere between 10-15 at HW for me. Depending on who wins and how the fight goes.

It is good to see Helenius stepping up. Teper is good opponent for him. Winnable fight if everything goes well. If not then Teper will take the win.

Helnius showed against Whyte that he still has the skills. He has good power and chin too. Conditioning and fragile body are hes main problems.

Win against Teper and hes in for couple of decent paydays. Loose this one and I think it is time to call it a career and do something else

The professional boxer Robert Helenius will meet on 29 September with the German team Erkan Teper IBF in the heavy series of Intercontinental title in Stuttgart. Helenius told the game on Thursday on Facebook.

Helenius and Teper were supposed to kick off in December 2015 in the EM match, but at that time, Teper withdrew from struggling with a hand. Soon after, it was rumored that Teper had been caught in doping.

Teper, 36, has won 19 matches in his career and lost two. Two years younger Helenius's balance is 27 wins, two losses.

Helenius's last match is just over a couple of weeks away from Savonlinna, where he beat down with Belarusian Yuri Bihautsoun.
Boxrec has Teper facing Edmund Gerber on that same date in Waldenbuch :-?

Doping or not, you've got to respect Teper for fighting Gerber and Helenius on the same night with an injured hand.
