David Allen's 5-man Shortlist

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

Robert Helenius
I want him. I'm not saying I want him next, but I want him before the year is out. I really like Robert, I think he's an absolute gentleman. He's a big name, but at this stage of his career, he's beatable, and I want to put myself even further on. I've got so much hunger in my chest, and I think Robert's the perfect fight for me at the end of the year. He's no 1.

Lucas Browne
I like Lucas Browne as well, but he's a former world champion, he's another massive springboard. After the Nick Webb fight, I've got so much confidence. You know what, I can do what I want to do in the ring. Lucas Browne is the perfect fight for me, stylistically. He'll come and fight - and I'll beat him.

Dillon Carman
He's a big man. He's a big Canadian man, but what Dillon Carman doesn't realise is - I'm a lumberjack. I'll chop him down like a big oak tree until he falls.

David Price
I would love the David Price fight at some point. It could be a huge fight. The plumber against the plumber smasher. If I'm fighting David Price, I want it for the British heavyweight title. I would fight my grandmother for the British title. I'm not bothered, I would fight any man.

Nick Webb
If he thinks it was a lucky punch, then I'll knock him out for a second time, however, he is a really nice man and I wish him the best. Don't make me do it again Nick, because I didn't enjoy it the first time.

Thoughts?

Beating Nick Webb to then going in with Helenius or Browne is daft. Price is well above Webb too but we obviously know if it goes past 4 or 5 rounds he can’t even hold his hands up. If he can make reasonable money from a Webb rematch and have a proper camp then why not.

I’d be looking to solidify his confidence and British ranking by fighting domestic opposition that puts him in line for a British title shot.

The result of the contest has clouded memory of what actually happened.
Dave Allen seems like a sweet guy but he couldn't take that number of punches against David Price for 4 rounds before pulling out a from the floor KO punch.
At this point I don't think he would generate enough revenue to get any of the first four names anyway.

This. He might be high on confidence, but why not build on that confidence. Aim for a belt, not just use yourself and lose again so quickly.

He could go on an unbeaten run potentially, if matched right.

I voted for Browne fight. Both of them are limited boxers, who can make a competetive and maybe even ugly fight against each other.

That was an ugly KO last time out. Genuinely feared for him at the time. Is he continuing with his career?

he should box at english or commonwealth level, i dont mean joyce but guys like carmen, kash ali, lenroy thomas who he already boxed and loss close to

so a guy like dillon carmen would be good. i feel he can maybe win some at that level

Dave still needs to let his brain recover from getting slapped around by Yoka... He might be a fan favourite with high stock right now but he is just not a good boxer and his 'style' is going to give him brain damage.

Id expect the British, English & CW titles to be vacant by the end of the year, think Allen should take some time off, get into shape and come up with a 2 fight plan.

Rematch with Webb (or a fight with someone on a similar level) for the English title, leading to a payday british title bout against Price or Dubois sounds like a great way to pay for a nice house in Doncaster.

Perhaps he can find something similar with the CW, im sure Hearn could work some magic for a 'final eliminator' and then fight Browne for the vacent belt once Joyce is gone...

He needs to be managed better, surely the aim must be to get a house out of boxing ASAP then retire after the next beating. Hes got that kid to train, can get other work within the sport etc.... It would be sad to see him still eating heavy shots and slurring his words a few years down the line.

I think people are forgetting he was more or less a punchbag for most of the fight. He was being his usual lazy self, walking forward getting hit and doing little back.

Give him a few confidence fights. The crowd love him and would be happy seeing him win a few times before a fight against Price which I don't think would be a bad option in a few fights.
How about the cobra who Haye fought. Nice looking record and would sit well on one of Eddie's 'stacked undercards'. Yes thats how I have been programmed now, case of picking which is the best shit.

I’m not sure he’s all that popular ( suspect he doesn’t shift many tickets for example ) and he’s certainly not very good ( obviously relatively speaking, I like him and take my hat off to everyone who gets in the ring etc etc )

I don’t understand the chat around him. There’s not much there when you scratch the surface. He’s pretty tough and gives people rounds.
