"30-day weights: Canelo 167.4lbs, Golovkin 168.3lbs"

Both Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin safely managed to weigh-in under the WBC’s 30-day limit of 176lbs yesterday, ahead of their scheduled September 15th world title rematch. WBC rules do not allow fighters to weigh more than 10% over the contracted fight limit for title bouts (which would be 16 pounds for a 160lb fight).

Canelo tipped the scale at a 167.4lbs for the sanctioning body’s check-in, one month before the showdown.

Meanwhile Golovkin tipped the scale slightly higher, but still well under the limit, when he weighed-in at 168.3lbs.

With both fighters well on track to make weight (which was more or less expected), the big middleweight showdown seems to be progressing rather smoothly, which is a stark contrast from all the uncertainty we’ve seen surrounding the fight this year.

Canelo and Golovkin now have a full month to shed roughly 8 pounds apiece, which really should be no big deal.

Thoughts?

To place some context for the information contained within the above post...

Last year, Gennady Golovkin hit the scales weighing-in at an even 170lbs for the WBC’s 30 day weight check.

Canelo was previously at odds with the WBC for the first GGG bout and refused to fight for their belt, which meant he didn't participate in last year's 30-day weigh-in.

Golovkin was 165lbs for the equivalent weigh-in for the Jacobs bout, 165.8lbs for Martirosyan, 165lbs for Brook, 164lbs for Wade, and 165lbs for Lemieux.

Canelo was 166.8lbs for the 30-day weigh-in for the Mayweather fight, 163.8lbs for Amir Khan, 167.8lbs for Miguel Cotto and 165.5lbs for Shane Mosley.
