Rocky Fielding vs. James DeGale being discussed
A potential fight between WBA “world” super middleweight champion Rocky Fielding and James DeGale is being talked about, says Fielding’s trainer Jamie Moore, who says he likes the matchup for his fighter.
DeGale (24-2-1, 14 KO) recently vacated the IBF super middleweight title rather than face mandatory challenger Jose Uzcategui, just a few months after DeGale avenged his shocking loss to Caleb Truax to regain the belt.
The 32-year-old DeGale is still a contender at 168, but it does look like his best days are behind him. Even in the win over Truax, he didn’t exactly shine.
That’s why Moore likes the fight — referring to it being good “timing” — for Fielding (27-1, 15 KO), the 31-year-old coming off of his best pro win over Tyron Zeuge on July 14 in Germany, where he took the title.
Would DeGale still have enough in the tank to handle Fielding, or do you think Rocky gets another big win if this happens?

Re: Rocky Fielding vs James DeGale being discussed
Jaime Moore said,
"I've got to be honest, it's really, really sort of early days negotiating wise, so they are talking about it, but there's other names in the mix is as well. Even though, I would love that fight for Rocky, I really would. I think it's a great fight for him. Again, style-wise it's a good blend for him. His last few performances haven't been his best performances, but I think it would be a little bit early to say that he's over the hill and past it. But timing might just be the right word for it. It is still early days. I don't think we can jump the gun just yet, but Rocky fancies it and if James DeGale does, and we can do a deal, then I would be more than happy with that fight."

What's the point in DeGale vacating if he's only going to challenge for the WBA' Regular belt. I understant it may be an easier fight than Uzcategui, but Fielding will fancy his chances. I thought DeGale would go for the BIIGGER domestic fights.

Very odd this. He obviously sees it as an easier option but cant help but think rocky will take it on points due to being busier over the course of the fight. What's the point in DeGale vacating if he's only going to challenge for the WBA' Regular belt. Imagine DeGale beats Rocky and Groves beats Callum. There's no way Groves would let DeGale live down that he only held the 'regular' version of the WBA title.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑15 Aug 2018, 14:32 What's the point in DeGale vacating if he's only going to challenge for the WBA' Regular belt. Neither Groves or DeGale would want to give an inch to each other in negotiations. The IBF belt would have been a far greater bargaining chip than Fielding's belt. Maybe he knows injuries are catching up with him.

I can see this is what they're potentially targeting. There is no guarantee that Groves beats Smith, he is the favorite, but I think it can go either way.ElJefe wrote: ↑15 Aug 2018, 14:36Imagine DeGale beats Rocky and Groves beats Callum. Also, no guarantee DeGale beats Fielding either.
If it comes off, DeGale would be WBA 'Regular' and Groves would be WBA 'Super'.. As DeGale is not with a promoter, Team Sauerland can promote the fight on ITV Box Office. It will likely do similar numbers to Groves-Eubank..
TBF, DeGale admitted he had to give up the IBF belt, he had no choice but to fight the Uzcategui or vacate.
Thing with DeGale vs. Callum Smith is, it's not a big enough fight for Hearn to put it on SKY Box Office. and ITV would like take a loss if they put it on PPV.
DeGale is looking for big pay days at this point in his career.
Re: Rocky Fielding vs James DeGale being discussed
No interest in this! Load of shite! He vacates a legitimate world title to fight Fielding for a secondary bauble? Eh
Blatant duck of Uzcategui! DeGale looks shot to fukk recently as well.

This is plan c or d. I think DeGale should fight Eubank, but that's not easy to make..... well, because it's Eubank.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑15 Aug 2018, 14:32 What's the point in DeGale vacating if he's only going to challenge for the WBA' Regular belt. Re: Rocky Fielding vs. James DeGale being discussed
James only has one fight left in him and I think he realises that in all probability he’s gonna get beat so why would he take relative peanuts to get beat by Rocky rather than wait and hope like fvck that George beats callum thus ensuring James can earn a well deserved big final pay cheque
Re: Rocky Fielding vs. James DeGale being discussed
I can see why Rocky and his team might be excited by the prospect of this fight. But it does nothing for me, and I can't see it getting Degale's blood up either.
The obvious fight is Eubank, that would be the biggest payday out there right now, and neither have a fight scheduled.
Unless he waits for Groves, but if Groves beats Callum Degale will be lucky to be offered more than 25% and if Groves loses to Callum the fight isn't as big.
Maybe Sauerland will offer a decent wedge to fight Braemher or Abraham? Not sure Degale will want his last fight to be in Germany though.
