Joshua Ordered By WBO To Make Mandatory After Povetkin
The WBO hasn’t appointed a mandatory challenger for its heavyweight title.
That hasn’t stopped the sanctioning organization from informing Anthony Joshua that he’ll have to make a mandatory defense of that championship within 180 days of his September 22 fight against Alexander Povetkin, assuming the heavily favored Joshua wins that bout at London’s Wembley Stadium. Sky Sports reported Thursday that the WBO hasn’t determined whether it’ll first order an elimination match to establish the mandatory challenger for Joshua’s title.
Povetkin is ranked No. 1 in the WBO’s heavyweight ratings, but the Russian veteran is the WBA’s mandatory challenger and won’t fulfill the WBO’s mandatory obligation. Dillian Whyte, who badly wants a rematch with Joshua, is the WBO’s No. 2-ranked heavyweight contender.
“Be advised that at this time the WBO has yet to determine if a WBO heavyweight elimination contest will be ordered,” the WBO wrote in a statement issued to Sky Sports.
“Further, the involvement of our WBO international heavyweight champion, Mr. Dillian Whyte, in a WBO heavyweight elimination bout is uncertain.”
Joshua (21-0, 20 KOs) stopped Whyte in the seventh round of their December 2015 bout at Manchester Arena in Manchester, England. In his following fight, Joshua knocked out Charles Martin in the second round to win the IBF title and ascended to superstardom in the United Kingdom.

Looks like the WBO are playing into Hearn's hands.
If the Fury/Wilder winner doesn't take the one sided deal he offers then he will get Whyte installed as mandatory and he gets his Wembley grudge match in April.

Exactly right. Hearn milking the cash cow. You can see why there is resentment towards him. Sure he spins a great story to justify but he's heading towards stitching the public in a serious way.
I personally have zero interest in Joshua-Whyte 2 and the idea of it being at a sold-out Wembley just doesn't seem right.

Big show from Whyte next time out he will deserve his shot if Wilder or Fury ain't happening.
Think it will be a great event.

Surely this just delays the fight we all want.
I just wish that the parties involved dropped the promotors and got a deal done.
I can imagine that AJ would fight wilder and vice versa.
But when you have promotors whispering in your ear etc.

The MEN was bouncing when AJ beat Whyte.....
Re: Joshua Ordered By WBO To Make Mandatory After Povetkin
How was the 02?
Re: Joshua Ordered By WBO To Make Mandatory After Povetkin
Deserves a shot? He ought to rematch Chisora first. How on earth has he possibly got any competitive chance against AJ when he arguably lost against Del Bey? AJ-Whyte 2 absolutely stinks. Matchroom are the only winners there.
Re: Joshua Ordered By WBO To Make Mandatory After Povetkin
He keeps winning, people want to watch. You don't have to.
Re: Joshua Ordered By WBO To Make Mandatory After Povetkin
deserves a shot pretty much at least as much as anyone else
Re: Joshua Ordered By WBO To Make Mandatory After Povetkin
Do people really want the rematch? I know the Eddie Hearn and Sky hype train do, but do boxing fans?samwbr wrote: ↑16 Aug 2018, 17:05He keeps winning, people want to watch. You don't have to.
I certainly wont be paying ppv for that. No worries there.
Re: Joshua Ordered By WBO To Make Mandatory After Povetkin

Depends where you are drawing the line between supposed casuals buying tickets and supposed hardcore sniping from the sidelines I guess.
Re: Joshua Ordered By WBO To Make Mandatory After Povetkin
Another 30 seconds and he's stopped by Parker. Not a conclusive win at all.
I have nothing against Whyte but he won't beat AJ. The fight is meaningless. I think Hearn should be making the Wilder fight. But he wants to cash in with minimum risk by using Whyte for the April Wembley show.

Re: Joshua Ordered By WBO To Make Mandatory After Povetkin
so who are all these more deservng guys who are serous threats?
Re: Joshua Ordered By WBO To Make Mandatory After Povetkin
Nobody outside of the people involved have any idea what they are trying to do. Take whoever's word you like on it to suit your point of view, it's irrelevant until a fight is made.

God forbid the fighters should make money. By your theory Joshua and Wilder fight and the loser slopes off into the wilderness never to be seen or heard of again.
Re: Joshua Ordered By WBO To Make Mandatory After Povetkin
whyte is actually more deserving of a shot then aj or wilder were
