Shame! Serves the little twat right, it amazes me what people think they can get away with.

I was cycling home last night, and turned the corner on my bike, cutting in front of a guy who was about to cross the road, (not that the lights hand changed in his favour) but who wasn't actually in the process of moving, next thing I hear the word "pudendum" in my ear, by the suit and tie wearing knob. I came to a halt, backtracked, and asked him if he had called me a pudendum, to which he replied in his posh arsehole accent 'Yes, you were blah blah.." which drew a swift but not very impressive right hand from me, which he flinched from and ran across the road, still protesting his innocence trying to explain how I was out of order. I informed him in a calm and level headed manner that he would be well advised to make his egress home with good haste lest I fill his face in with my fist.

I mean, am I being oversensitive here, or does anyone else think that shouting 'pudendum' in someone's ear is rather asking for a kicking?

There is something about that word, I would have slapped him one as well. If I was called dick or a tool or something I would just laugh and say whatever mate, but being called a pudendum gets right on my tits!

Depends. If you were going at a reasonable clip, the shock of having someone bellow in your ear could've had you veering all over the road. I imagine I'd be pretty pissed off if that happened to me. But then again, if he'd have turned around and given you a shoeing, I expect you'd have complained about it, despite the fact that you threw the first punch.

It doesn't makes you an evil person or anything. I myself have whacked someone that was winding me up verbally, and I know that if you've had a bad day, or a few beers, and some fornicator starts abusing you or just being a cheeky shite, that it's easy to loose your cool. I felt bad about it when I'd cooled down, but the bollocks occasionally taking over from the brain is part of the male condition.

To be honest I was doing a bout 2 miles an hour gently freewheeling around the bend, it's not like I nearly hit him, he saw me coming, but for some reason thought the onus was on me to stop.

I have to say I was a bit shaky afterward, it's not something worth losing your rag over, but I found him extremely offensive. Have been a bit wound up lately, but attacking people in the street over what amounts to a minor misdemeanour isn't really the way forward. It's when I noticed people looking at me like I was mad that I realised that. I was also rather dissapointed at how poor my right cross was.

It was a pretty poor effort. I can remember looking at the spot I wanted to hit, but I think he put his hand up and deflected it. He was like a young Ali, only shorter, fatter, blonder and a lot whiter.

Fair play though, James. As you know, I currently live in an area full of first year uni students. I've lost count of the amount of times they amble into the road without looking either way and had to break sharply.

Then they turn round and look at you as if you're in the wrong. Which, naturally, often draws a dose of invective from yours truly.

I hate to say it, as I can imagine that that was no need for you to be verbally abused, but you should have just left it - you don't have the right to start hitting people. I'm not trying to agree with what he called you, but I think that you were wrong to hit him. At the end of the day imagine if you did connect a beauty on the button and the toff was KO'd and hit his head knocking him into a coma, or if he turned around and duffed you up!!!

James I'm with you mate. If someone has a go at you for no reason then give them a dig and next time they'll think twice about it.

I hate people who think they can say or do what they want and get away with it. I must say though the amount of times nowadays you see people get hit, hit the pavement and end up in a bad way is quite worrying. Answer? A good body punch hurts just as much but is not life threatening!

Or straight on the nose hurts but won't Ko them!

I totatally agree that anyone calling another man a c+?n is out of order, but this was a passing comment - do you really think that giving him a kickin will change anything?
I know that giving this fool a slap would give anyone personal satisfaction, but the risk of getting nicked far out weighs this.
There's a small chance that it might and suit bloke might be a changed man, but there's also a high chance that he wont and that you will end up in big trouble for teaching some tosser a lesson. IMO it's just not worth it - imagine that you did some serious damage - London is full of CCTV and being a busy place you would probably get nicked and there's a possibility that you will go to prision - I'm sure that if this happened then you would regret hitting him.
There's also the chance that you will break bones in your hand and this would do your head in and what if you did give him a pasting and he saw you out 3 months later when he was with a mob of his suit mates and gave you a savage beating? All over a single comment.
I'm not trying to have a go at you for what you did as I think that every bloke has done something like this and to be honest I absolutley love it when I see assholes like this get a slap- but what I am trying to do is highlight the fact that sadly I think that it's just not worth the risk over a passing comment - acting the way that he does I'm sure that he'll get a kicing sooner or later, but if you really must duff him, do it where you wont get nicked or leave it to someone who has nothing to loose.
