Canelo-Golovkin Rematch: Judges, Referee Assigned By NSAC

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin now know who’ll score their rematch if it goes the distance.

The Nevada State Athletic Commission has assigned Connecticut’s Glenn Feldman, Nevada’s Dave Moretti and New Jersey’s Steve Weisfeld to work their second 12-round, 160-pound middleweight championship match September 15 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Bob Bennett, the NSAC’s executive director, suggested those three judges to the five-member commission, which approved them Wednesday during the NSAC’s monthly meeting in Las Vegas.

The NSAC also assigned New Jersey referee Benjy Esteves Jr. on Wednesday to officiate the Alvarez-Golovkin rematch.

Bennett suggested that the commission approve the assignment of Nevada referee Tony Weeks to work the Alvarez-Golovkin rematch. Tom Loeffler, Golovkin’s promoter, objected to Weeks working the bout during the meeting. Before the commission approved Esteves, NSAC chairman Anthony A. Marnell III said it was “absolutely absurd” for Loeffler to suggest Weeks isn’t qualified to officiate the rematch.

Bennett also defended the potential assignment of Weeks, who was widely criticized for how he handled the conclusion of the Andre Ward-Sergey Kovalev light heavyweight championship rematch in June 2017.

Loeffler reiterated he simply was attempting to avoid the potential for controversy because the judging of the first fight created such a firestorm and drew negative attention the sport.

Don’t let the previous scorecard fool you. I guarantee this dope Moretti is on the take and part of the huge problem with Vegas Boxing. This guy gets all of the top fights in Vegas for a reason.

Did you ever wonder why Boxing doesn’t circulate judges in Vegas? Moretti is ALWAYS there. For every Floyd fight for half of Floyd’s career and now Oscar’s greased him for the new Vegas cash cow.

The fix is in. GGG needs a KO to walk out of there with his pants up.

Excuses? How are custom gloves designed by a fighter's coach acceptable? Maybe Abel should design ones too with some plaster in them?

I've known Benjy for years. We ref'd together in the amateurs before he went pro. Benjy is a straight shooter, good guy and he his not of Mexican heritage. He is Peurto Rican.

Weeks as Ref just means Canelo is going for low blows and rabbit punches. Triple G be warned.

Although I'm sure Gennady knows the score. Canelo's going to get the best of him if he tries that nonsense.
