Trevor Ambrose

Post by forcefraser »

Anyone remember a fighter from Leicester called Trevor Ambrose?

I think he was also a kickboxer

I went to a parents meeting at hr school today over here in Bergen, Norway and I saw this guy who my daughter told me afterwards used to be a boxer.

He works at the school helping kids with special needs.

I might have to say hello next time and get him round mine for the boxing.

yea he was a kickboxer I believe , he fought our local Kickboxing Champion Lex Easton.

Think he knocked Lex out in First round in 1st fight and then Lex beat him in second , not sure if that was him for sure but he definitely did fight Ambrose in Paisley , I believe he liked to turn you around and kid on he was bumming you during fights . :o

I just did a bit of checking. He was a 5x world champion kickboxer and is in the hall of fame.

He runs a boxing and kickboxing/fitness gym here.

Be good to get him to watch the fights with me, my mates over here are pure casuals and they think boxing is fixed 😀

his fight with Lex is on Youtube , think it was someone else Lex fought twice that I was describing above.

I also seem to recall my Brother who was a welterweight boxer mentioning Ambrose as a possible opponent at some point aswell . his name cropt up a few times.

certainly sounds like he could fight.

Fought a whos who in pro boxing, Calzaghe, Robin Reid and Nicky Piper among others, also had wins over Errol Christie and Mads Larson, his record ended 11-18

Yes I’m sure Lex fought And beat both Trevor and Wayne Ambrose.. I remember one being a brutal KO.. I can’t remember the name of the boy who beat Lex then lost in the rematch.. A lot of stories kicking about that Lex used to smash up. Fair few pro boxers

Lex knocked both Trevor and Wayne Ambrose out. Only fought each of them once. I watched an interview with Gary Jacobs who spoke of using lex as a chief sparring partner and lex giving him nightmares. Lex is widely regarded as one of the best kickboxers of all time. 7x world champion.

That's where I remember his name from. Well remembered! Haven't saw Lex about in ages. His boy Sandy was pretty good as well.

Think he was teaching kickboxing down in Bournemouth when I lived there in '99. Good rep in that genre.

My Brother Kevin Mcintyre sparred a lot with Lex when he was amateur and first turned pro , I was skipping in corner of the YMCA as I was a just starting as amateur and watched them go at it , was very competitive , Lex is a solid Unit.

Trevor turned pro with Wally Swift, later switching to the Jack Bishop stable. To be honest, neither Wally and Jack could develop Ambrose as he probably deserved to be developed because the fighter could certainly whack. He wound up as an 'opponent' for some big names.

Lot of stories of Lex from the street as well :TU: Guy could shift! Him and his brother Kenny smashed up a team of plain clothes police when they used to do the doors in Paisley after they raided their club.

How is Kevin getting on with the refereeing? Is he getting many gigs? Would be good to see more ex pros take that route and eventually oust the usual suspects over here!
