But beating Pulev could have put him in line for a shot at AJ. Beating Joyce would have done little for his career.
Didn’t he turn down AJ to fight Pulev?
Not that I can recall, though my memory isn't the best.
Would seem a ridiculous thing to do, unless he felt beating Pulev would give him a bigger purse vs AJ
Nah he turned down a much bigger payday against AJ to fight Pulev as I suppose he fancied it more. The legend is that Del couldn’t be arsed against Pulev but I remember him actually really trying and not getting anywhere: Pulev simply outclassed him. I’m a massive Chisora fan and, although I never watched it again, I don’t recall it being a performance that Del dialled in. He tried but Pulev was just all wrong for him. I seem to recall this was the beginning of the Whyte-D beef as Whyte had just lost to AJ and was calling Del an idiot for getting paid eff all for going to Europe for Pulev and a crap payday when he had the AJ fight on a plate. Correct me if I’m wrong.
I’m also a huge Joyce fan, back on topic. Everybody seems to want to be the one to predict his downfall, but I watched the Olympics and a lot of his amateur career and the old git’s a beast. He was robbed of gold and managed right he’ll be a player. He won’t be undisputed number 1 or anything but he’ll make top 10 and win against some people you won’t expect him to. I’m well behind the lad. He’s good.

Maybe. But he could've and maybe should've been Pulev possibly opening up title fights. AJ would've knocked him spark out, especially as he was knocking everyone spark out on the way up

Has Joshua knocked anybody out?
Dillian Whyte springs to mind
Yeah that was a full knockout rather than a stoppage. The point stands though.
I like Joyce, probably unlucky that he wasn’t around 3-4 years earlier or later in terms of how far he will get in terms of championships.
He is pretty mobile for such a big lump and presumably with the Haymon move he will be either bringing in American opponents or boxing in the USA rather than trying to slot into the UK heavyweight scene.

Good refereeing on many occasions as I don’t recall a stoppage that came before an inevitable knockout was about to follow
Seem to recall he also KOd that zumbano love fella pretty heavily too
I was at the Zumbano Love fight but I can’t actually remember how the stoppage came, I think you might be right.
Referee intervention or otherwise, Joshua wasn’t laying waste to people in his way up the way that people seem to recall.
This is not a step up in competition for me. It's relatively short notice though so we can forgive that a little i guess. He needs to be going against someone in the top 100 atleast. It looks like they're going to set up an Arreola fight in the not too distant future but he won't get any credit from the fans if he waits ages for that, it's only a recognisable name.
If he wants to get noticed you'd think he'll need to beat a few more Vargas level types to get anywhere but Andy Ruiz just got re-ranked by the WBC for beating Vargas and Kevin Johnson.
He should be looking at Hrgovic for inspiration. He turned pro 11 months ago and is up against Amir Mansour next month. Joyce turned pro the following month and doesn't look like facing a Mansour level fighter anytime soon.

Vargas?
After all the excitement possible, signing with one of the biggest players in boxing, and his first fight is a tomato can.
Great.
Apparently he is not fighting Vargas, nor is he fighting on that date..

Joyce should be aiming for a quick US debut then a big fight on the Wilder - Fury card imo.
Think he'd smash through someone like Gerald Washington faster then Wilder & Miller did... Would be a good start.
I'd agree with that. Maybe a slight increase in competition but an expected easy win like Abell or Dawejko in the next month or two, then someone like Washington, Molina, Stiverne on the Wilder-Fury card would be a decent move.
But... i can imagine we'll get Tann or Martz level boxers then Chris Arreola next year.
Cant say iv heard of this guy but doesnt look like a step up on paper..
Hoping its a quick run out and he can fight someone known/ranked before the end of the year!
