Celebrity fight drawing up some major interest

Post by chuck9788 »

Does anyone know about this boxing match up between "social media celebrities" Logan Paul vs KSI?

Apparently this is a serious fight in which both guys trained hard. It's being held at the Machester Arena ffs!

Never heard of 'em. Rappers or something? I've heard rappers talk sh*t about "We're gonna fight and settle our beef" about 10 times now, and I've never actually seen it happen.

All bark, and no bite those guys.

I see this fight listed in some of the sportsbooks sites.

I had no idea what or who they are. I guess they're names in the UK.

The last celebrity fight I was interested in was Joey Buttafuco vs Chyna. Good scrap.

It's a 6 rounder. In case you're curious, Logan Paul goes in a -150 favorite.

Yeh, KSI fought Joe Weller on 3rd Feb this year and beat him. He then called out Logan and Jake Paul who are both from US. He also called out Rio Ferdinand lol. The fight was on Youtube and reached a live peak of 1.8 million I think and it reached around 20+ million views after a few days. That was at the Copper Box.

This card will also see KSI’s brother take on Jake Paul. He used to act on Disney. Apparently these Paul brothers have been very controversial over the last few years.

This fight is on Youtube PPV..

Why is KSI calling out Paul?

Different countries. What's their history?

Are these 3 minute rounds?

I read that 100 million people are expected to tune in.

That has to be hyperbole. Only if you're glued to You Tube day and night, have you heard of them.

It's supposed to cost $8.

Eddie Hearn is not thrilled by the matchup. He said that it makes "his skin crawl" and that neither of the combatants have any idea how to fight.

I hope that there are highlights available online tomorrow....for free.

Probably because they're considered "social media stars."

In this era, that makes you one of the most famous people on earth, even if you or I are clueless about them.

As I said above. The Paul brothers, who are also actors, youtube stars etc. Have been a bit controversial in recent times. And they just as big as KSI.

This is a 2-fight deal. A return bout will take place in the US next year.

I suppose that means that this one has to be close and controversial.

Other than the inflated levels of interest and that both participants are apparently taking it very seriously, it is just another "celebrity boxing" event, no? There's a chance boredom/curiosity might've got the better of me had it been free I suppose, but either way I don't see it as especially amazing or especially dreadful as an event in itself.

Reminds me of the celebrity fight a few years ago between Hollywood actor Mickey Rourke and a panhandler he hired for the occasion. More realistic than plenty of other fights I've seen actually...

Where's the tape of Rourke getting stretched by Hearns?

Where's the tape of Rourke getting stretched by Hearns?

From Boxrec:

"Rourke also sparred with Thomas Hearns. Former WBO Middleweight Champion Doug DeWitt told Men's Health magazine: "[W]hen Mickey Rourke was sparring with Tommy Hearns, he got cute. Hearns threw a good punch. Rourke was unconscious for 5 minutes."

That boy has not aged well. They panhadler he paid to take a dive looks better.

I guess they knew that a rematch would be needed.

The fight just ended and it resulted in what was described as an uneventful draw.

Both guys say they're ready to do it again.

But if this one wasn't entertaining, will they find an audience to pay for a rematch?

For those of you that don't know too much behind this circus event, it was quite ridiculous. The WBC made a special belt to be given to the winner (there was none), Michael Buffer announced, over 20,000 attended the fight live, both guys received millions of dollars, and of course a draw would attract another 50 million or so viewers for the already previously arranged rematch, despite the fact this fight was mediocre for celebrity novice amateurs. In essence, a smart money making move by both stars (and they are amongst the younger crowds especially). Shannon Briggs had been helping promote the fight, and hundreds of thousands of comments asking "how boxing works?" could be found all over the comment section 😂if it gets the younger crowd interested into boxing, than great. But if they think every fight is run like this, it's nothing but a mockery to our great sport.

It funny. It was announced a majority draw..

58-57 KSI
57-57
57-57

The whole arena was confused as to what that meant. Twitter was blowing up with people saying wel If KSI won on at least one card, how is it a majority decision.. oh and added the scored..

58 + 57 + 57 = 172
57 + 57 + 57 = 171

Obviously only hardcore fight fans watched it.

I guess if so many of the clueless watched it, then they can undoubtedly be suckered into buying the rematch.

And probably a rubber match too.

"KSI and Logan Paul probably banked up to $11 million from their YouTube boxing match"
  • Business Insider has calculated that YouTubers KSI and Logan Paul made as much as $11 million from their boxing match on Saturday.
  • Media estimates suggest around 20,000 fans attended the match, and more than 770,000 paid to watch the live stream on YouTube.
  • The pair will have made even more cash from a uCast stream of the fight, as well as merchandise sales, and ad revenue from videos in the run-up to the fight.
  • They will be able to double their money next February, when they plan a rematch in the US.
  • The pair also lost out on substantial amounts of money. The Verge reported that more than 1 million viewers watched illegal, pirated streams on game streaming site Twitch. That's a potential loss of £7.5 million or $10 million in streaming revenue alone.

Why don't they make fight featuring the trainers. Example would be Angel Garcia vs Mayweather Sr. Undercard would be Robert Garcia vs Roger Mayweather.
