I don't know if the full story will come out but it wasn't fear and there is more to it than 'the purse isn't high enough'. Perhaps the promoter told him on arrival at the arena that ticket sales were low and purse was being reduced or something, I don't know what the real story is but we haven't heard it yet.

Harper already confirmed that it was purse relatedleejonesjnr wrote: ↑25 Aug 2018, 09:04 I don't know if the full story will come out but it wasn't fear and there is more to it than 'the purse isn't high enough'. I dont know the real story (i mean detaild) but i think fighters like he or Kassi (that after 2 rounds vs Ugonoh said hes got a headache with smile on his face and went partying in Warsaw instead of fighting) should be stigmatized (if not banned) and they should never get a fight again
Re: HW scares his opponent out of the ring LOL
I feel most sorry for Harper's family and friends.
They can no longer brag about his past accomplishments and instead will hang their heads in shame in even knowing "that guy who ran out of the ring after the staredown".

Re: HW scares his opponent out of the ring LOL
What sucks about it is, it hurts his KO %.
If you quit, for any reason, it should be counted as a stoppage or TKO for your opponent.

The DQ win was recorded at 1 second of the first round. Surely this ties or is the record for fastest victory.

How can any fight be shorter?
Re: HW scares his opponent out of the ring LOL
Technically, perhaps it should have been 10 seconds.SenorPipino wrote: ↑25 Aug 2018, 09:49I wondered the same.marvelous marv wrote: ↑25 Aug 2018, 09:45 The DQ win was recorded at 1 second of the first round. Surely this ties or is the record for fastest victory.

But it wasn't the staredown that caused Harper to bolt and make a fool of himself.
It was his unhappiness over the "meager" paycheck that he agreed to.
As with all civilized people, if you don't care for the salary, then simply say "no thanks" and walk away when the offer is made.
Don't waste everyone's time later because of some misguided belief that your grievances justify acting on self-indulgent whims.

Did the ref give him a 10 count?Tony1244 wrote: ↑25 Aug 2018, 09:50Technically, perhaps it should have been 10 seconds.SenorPipino wrote: ↑25 Aug 2018, 09:49I wondered the same.marvelous marv wrote: ↑25 Aug 2018, 09:45 The DQ win was recorded at 1 second of the first round. Re: HW scares his opponent out of the ring LOL
He didn't but I think he should have. It wouldn't have made any difference anyway, but I thought you had 10 seconds to get your sh*t together. I think these "fights" should be scored as a TKO.SenorPipino wrote: ↑25 Aug 2018, 10:30Did the ref give him a 10 count?
Re: HW scares his opponent out of the ring LOL
Whether Harper ran out of fear or "meager salary protest" (which is my belief) ...... EITHER WAY ,,, he made a complete embarassment of himself, his family/friends and his training staff among many others.
Was it really worth it?

It's not a "protest" when you're being asked to put your future health and welfare on the line for chump-change ... it's a smart move ... took balls too ... bigger balls than any of you critics have ... by far ... (a bigger brain too) ...
Re: HW scares his opponent out of the ring LOL
Even if he is right, what he did doesn't at all help him. Now, no promoter is going to want him on a card if he's capable of this. He might as well go back to his day job or get one.Sequitorian wrote: ↑25 Aug 2018, 07:13Not so strange ... he got my respect ...
I spent way too much time in boxing gyms where many of the fighters had nothing ... not even a place to sleep sometimes ... and got used and abused by promoters over and over again ... not even earning enough to pay rent ...
He was being set-up and he knew it ... and he just decided at the last moment that it wasn't worth it ... and it wasn't ... so he just said "fvck 'em ... I ain't doin' this shitt" ... and walked away ... and he was 100% right in doing so ... I agree ... fvck 'em ...

Probably a good idea ... the dream eventually ends for everyone ... maybe he was just smart enough to know when ... even if it inconvenienced some people ... like I said ... fvck 'em ...

Why didn't he just pull out of the fight before? Why did have to do it when the bell ring? Yes his health is on the line but people actually paid to see this fight and were cheated by Harper. You don't play games like that.Sequitorian wrote: ↑25 Aug 2018, 11:47It's not a "protest" when you're being asked to put your future health and welfare on the line for chump-change ... it's a smart move ... took balls too ... bigger balls than any of you critics have ... by far ... He (Ajagba, not Agobogbe) was the second-youngest quarterfinalist in the super heavyweight division of the 2016 Olympics . He also got a few mentions in the top heavyweight prospects thread. He is currently the 7th-ranked heavyweight of his age or younger; although he is probably going to be rising up the ranks somewhat faster than a few of the less experienced guys who are taking their time. In a year, he will probably 4th-ranked for his age and younger.

You can see in the pre-fight Harper mugging to the camera and looking relatively relaxed - certainly he doesn't look like a guy steeling himself to make a big statement and upset a large room of people. If I had to guess I'd say he was told beforehand he was up against "some African nobody" and took a smaller fee than he would have got for someone like Arreola or Zhang expecting that the fight was a stay busy, easy knockout type fight.
When he got a sense of what he was actually up against: a 5(5)-0 former Olympian, in great shape and living in America he realised then that he had been shortchanged on what he'd have demanded to face someone like that and the rest is history. Whether that's right or wrong is up to you and it's obviously just conjecture on my part anyway. But that is what it looks like to me anyway.

The quickest win. A record, that won't be beaten. Ever.

He should've chosen a different career then.Sequitorian wrote: ↑25 Aug 2018, 07:13Not so strange ... he got my respect ...

It's not balls to do something like this. It's stupidity. Especially if he thinks he still deserves to get paid for that fiasco. If you just show up to your job, and don't work, you expect a paycheck?Sequitorian wrote: ↑25 Aug 2018, 11:47It's not a "protest" when you're being asked to put your future health and welfare on the line for chump-change ... it's a smart move ... took balls too ... bigger balls than any of you critics have ... by far ... Don't know what it is you think is brave about agreeing to fight somebody, and then not doing it at the last second when all the arrangements have been made.
If he thought he deserved more money he should've taken that up with the promoter before he stepped into the ring.

This fiasco has already gone viral globally and most people are not even aware of the "money issues" excuse. Harper will only be remembered as the guy who got punked by a staredown and skulked out of the ring like a whipped puppy.gilgamesh wrote: ↑25 Aug 2018, 17:31It's not balls to do something like this. Re: HW scares his opponent out of the ring LOL
It clearly wasn't that he "got punked" by the staredown. I've seen 1000's of scarier looking staredowns. So it obviously wasn't that...now he may well have been scared of the guy, and the thought of what was about to happen to him, but surely nothing about the staredown scared him that bad.

Right ... most people today, it seems, are just looking for an easy target ... someone to attack ... usually from behind their computer ... some safe place ...Best Coast wrote: ↑25 Aug 2018, 17:44 This fiasco has already gone viral globally and most people are not even aware of the "money issues" excuse. ... but they're the ones who've been punked ... by life itself ... which terrifies them ...
