There is solid chance that oponent will have power too AND boxing skills to prevent being hit with bombs. Dont get me wrong, big power and strength is great advantage in boxing but overall boxing skills (not meaning only jabbing and running) is more important. I hate that jabbing and running boxing style too, but its proven to be very effective if person can master it. On the other side i love boxers who can effectively fight against these "runners" :D

Edit: Jab is not exclusively runners weapon. Gennady Golovkin has big power and he is a pressure fighter. Besides that he has one of best jabs in boxing now IMO. :box: :box: :box:

It's not a very effective tactic to use against a world class boxer, but against a low level opponent it could well catch them cold.

I wouldn't mind seeing more journeymen take this approach, but understand why they don't.

Probably because it's not as straightforward as it sounds as we see in the following famous example :

But I do agree that its a waste of time trying to outbox a more skilled fighter unless they have serious chin or stamina issues.

Tom Sharkey tried it. He had some sucess, but was also a total freak, and the punishment he took for sure shortened his career.

Boxing was originally a sport done with the mentality of stand and fight, any other way was cowardice, the only reason anyone didn't rush was because, despite it being unpopular, it was more effective. And so winning, rather than just being manly took over how people boxed. The reason people don't just rush is because it isn't very effective a lot of the time. It can work, but it's high risk, and people know how to deal with it.

Hearnsfan23 is obviously a "dude" with zero brainpower, beaten by life & basic sense anyways. would he ever try to "play the boxing game by rushing someone right away, throwing heat"...ah whatever, not worth it.

This simple answer is because you get hit with bombs back when employing that strategy. If you are the more skilled fighter you raise your chances of winning from 50 percent (who ever lands first) to 95 percent using good defense, a jab and some kind of strategy. (not getting caught with a big punch)

Not being arrogant - I was never a pro or any good. I feel like people that have never fought think it’s far easier to hit someone and hit someone cleanly than it actually is. A step backward can ruin it all for you.

ive watched a number of novice amateur fights where it works, as a lot of these begginers still arent very comfortable with someone throwing punches at them and will begin to raise there chins, stop moving, forget about there jabs etc. but like said it becomes overall a disadvantage when you start dealing with opponents who can use skill. also it will gas you pretty fast, so even if your landing you better watch out

it might be worth a try though if a boxer has tried everything else though w/o much success, even some skillful boxers can raise there chin and get a bit uncomfy under pressure for a moment

its true, my gym didnt have anyone as young as me when started, so i had to spar with older and far more experienced boxers who knew ther way around a lot better then me at that point....even a little bit of lateral movement can be hell to someone who is coming in there without much refinement, even if they have the tools to eventually be crafted into a good boxer. it was more embarassing missing as much as i did then getting hit

.....people often say certain slick boxers must have power because opponents dont throw lots vs them, but my gawd knowing your gonna miss like a fool can be one of the most hesitating things out there. landing can give you a certain confidence to throw again even if the opponent has power or your losing, but missing widly again and again is just sh!tty and embarassing and makes you doubt yourself

those early experiences for me always made me hate fighting the movers the most, but at same time they made me dedicate myself to figuring out how to deal with those fighters and eventually i became effective vs most them.

and vs the guys who maybe dont move there legs constantly but jerk there head around........body punching is a great tool. it surprises me how many guys can only seem to throw head shots...maybe its almost a superficial narassistic thing where they want that highlight reel ko and to talk about how they laid a man out etc

when you punch with a weight transfer, with each punch, your body weight moves from leg to leg. so even when you miss a punch, you are positioned to throw your next punch, which in turn gets you into position to throw your next punch, and so on.

he is right. many, many boxers are overthinkers.

The OP is talking about "throwing bombs", you aren't gonna be balanced to throw punch after punch after punch.

Porter steams in with good effect. Can always get timed fighting like that though, like Broner did to him (just too little too late for AB in that fight).
